Could Beowulf be coming to SyFy?

It looks as if the SyFy Channel is going to tackle the 3,000-line Old English epic poem “Beowulf”. The network is working on a series that would feature the Vikings of old. “Matt Greenberg (1408, Reign of Fire) will write the script” for the SyFy Channel. Executive producers of the series will Brian Hamilton, Michael Chechik, Matt Greenberg, Andrew Cosby and Paulo de Oliveira.

We all remember the 2007 animated feature by Robert Zemeckis and Neil Gaiman with mixed emotions. What are your thoughts on this project Maniacs?

I loved the 2007 Zemeckis, but do have the lingering question, "Why didn't they just do it live action instead of animation?" Doesn't seem like that much of a jump from the kind of animation they used. The animation appeared to take away rather than enhance that story, but otherwise it was a strong movie.

As far as a continued series I'm guessing they could go at this in several different ways. Kind of like Sleepy Hallow which has gone like a supernatural freakoid situation of the week show, or horror angle in which the creature preys on some unsuspecting fool week to week, or my choice, one story (not a series of stories) that just gets explained over an extended period of time over 2-3 seasons with loads of character development and political intrigue. But then again, somebody would say they're just trying to piggyback on GoT success.

Might watch...but my time is precious as Golum would say.  They better have good leads in this.  They should pull guys and gals from Farscape, B5, and Stargate.  Get their best.

I too loved the 2007 movie. I'm down for this and will give it a chance.
