I remember years ago, when Wizard still did casting calls, Iman was their choice for Storm also, providing a picture of her character from Star Trek VI for a reference.  She would have been awesome.  I think the ONLY actor who made it to the movie from that list was Patrick Stewart as Professor Xavier.

I remember hearing about an X-Man movie in the 90's and my cousin and I talked a lot about who could play who.  I don't remember who we chose for all of the characters, but I remember who we chose for Wolverine and Professor X.  I am not a Trekkie, never have watched a lot of Star Trek, and have always leaned more toward Star Wars.  However, I had seen a few episodes of TNG.  So when the question arose who would play Xavier we both said...that bald dude from Star Trek.  We chose Bruce Willis for Wolverine....why?  We thought he was short enough and he had the right attitude, due to his portrayal of Det. John McClane in Die Hard.  We both thought Arnold would be a great Colossus if he were younger.

I think Halle Berry did a crappy job of portraying Storm, I don't know if it was because of the directing or because she can't act.  She's not a bad actress, she was just bad in this.  So unlike most people, I blame Singer for her portrayal and because I think he's a hack.

I thought she did alright in the first movie, but just didn't even try in the others...and here is my theory on why she quit trying:  In between X-Men and X2, she got paid $2 million to show her boobs ($1 million per tit) in Swordfish, and she won the Oscar for Monster's Ball.  She went into the project full of herself, and possibly not getting paid enough (in her mind).

Maybe she will sport the Storm's Mohawk / leather look..just askin :)

I've seen no evidence that Iman can't act .  Berry can act.   Berry also has box office clout.  If Halle was bad in previous X-Men movies I would first check the writing and if the writing is good (in my opinion it wasn't) then check the directing.

What everyone is missing here is that in order for this movie to turn a handsome profit it has to appeal to millions and millions of people who are not nerds or geeks and have never read a comic.

If you read the Mania interview with Sam Raimi, in it talks about the Oz books and says "You can't be loyal to every detail of the book. Every filmmaker knows that when you make a book into a movie you have to kill the book.  Unfortunately, you've got to re-create it."

If hollywood is going to bastardize classic works of fiction like Frankenstein or 20 Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, it's I crazy to expect a  faithful rendition of comic books.  Let's just hope that it's a good movie, with a good story, great direction, stunning effects and strong acting, and if some character in the film doesn't resemble a drawing in a comic, let it slide.
