Beware! BOOGEYMEN are here!

Imagine the scariest parts of your favorite horror films put together on one DVD, packed full of extras and shipped to stores just in time for Halloween. At a retail price of $19.98, would you be interested? The folks at FlixMix, Inc. and Universal Home Video certainly hope so. They picked a total of 18 terrifying scenes from such gore-fest favorites as TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, HELLRAISER and JASON GOES TO HELL for inclusion on the compilation.
FlimMix launched the DVD with an incredible gala event in Hollywood last weekend. BOOGEYMEN took over the beautiful Paramour Estates, a 1930's mansion believed to be haunted. Much more than your typical launch party, faceless guides in dark druidic robes gave guests creepy tours of the grounds. Each person in attendance was prompted to walk through an arcane circle and perform a ritual of magic protection, involving black candles and wine served in silver chalices.
The evening culminated with guests gathering around a large table as a medium initiated a séance meant to contact the spirits of the Paramour's former owners. During the séance candles lit by themselves, a mysterious breeze shook the curtains, and the fireplace burst into flames. At the climax, the table split in two revealing a giant copy of the BOOGEYMEN DVD cover.
Among those in attendance was Robert Englund, who played Freddy in the NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET movies, and who also provided commentary for the BOOGEYMEN disc. "I think we all needed a good early Halloween party," Englund joked with the crowd.
Gary Shenk, producer of the DVD, was also on hand to take questions. "BOOGEYMEN is so much more than a compilation, because there's so much more that you can do with DVD," he said. "We feel like we've made the first DVD product created especially for the DVD format. We used all the potential of this new form of media."
In fact, FlixMix hopes that BOOGEYMEN will "usher in a whole new category in home entertainment". The disc explores the gamut of digital interactivity by including on-screen animated trivia, games, production notes, commentaries, character backstory notes and links to exclusive Internet content.
For those who have yet to join the digital revolution, don't worry, you haven't been forgotten. FlixMix will also release BOOGEYMEN on videocassette. It won't have any of the DVD's incredible extras, of course, but it will be available for only $14.98.
A source close to FlixMix says that the company has high hopes for the release. "If this new concept catches on, they want to do some other genres," the source states. "They're thinking of a comedy collection, maybe done with MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3K-style commentary by the guys from THE MAN SHOW".
BOOGEYMEN is in stores as of October 2nd.
