Mark Fleischer,President of Mainframe USA announced yesterday that they the Canada-basedanimation house has won the rights to produce a television series based on AlienLegion, the critically acclaimed comic book series created by Carl Pottswith Alan Zelenetz & Frank Cirocco.

According totheir press release Mainframe will apply its CGI expertise to the AlienLegion characters, which will face new and exciting adventures in thisoriginal television series. The Alien Legion series will bedeveloped by Mainframe and produced at its studios in Vancouver by the company'sleading animators and producers, along with Potts, who will work closely withMainframe's team on the development and production of the series. Kevin Gamble,one of Mainframe's talented producers, will be assigned to the project.

"We can'twait to work with Carl Potts in turning Alien Legion, with itsdevoted fan base, into a vibrant television series, capturing the full scope ofits wonderful characters and intense action in a whole new visualdimension," says Fleischer. "The magic of CGI animation translatessci-fi themes beautifully to the television medium."

"I am thrilled to be partnering withMainframe and taking Alien Legion to the next level, into cuttingedge animation. I anticipate that Alien Legion willfollow in the great tradition of other comic book-based dramatic productionslike Spider-Man, Batman, and X-Men."

In addition tocreating Alien Legion, Potts has written and developed manyfiction and non-fiction projects in a variety of media. During his 13 years atMarvel Entertainment, he served as Executive Editor of Marvel Comics andEditor-in-Chief of Marvel's Epic Comics division.

According to thepress release Alien Legion has attracted a large following ofloyal readers, selling over 2 million units in North America since its debut in1983. Focusing on the adventures of a band of interstellar fighters reminiscentof the French Foreign Legion, called Force Nomad, Alien Legion has earned highpraise for its stunning artwork and high-caliber writing. A long running hit inthe comic book world, Alien Legion spawned a licensed merchandisecampaign that included posters, T-shirts, candy and more, as well as numerousfan sites on the internet. The comic book series has been translated intoFrench, Portuguese and Spanish, among other languages.

The televisionseries will introduce audiences around the world to the unique collection ofAlien Legion characters. The multi-species crew of the Legion's Force Nomad --footsloggers and Soldiers of Fortune, priests and poets, killers and cads - wereculled from the dregs of three galaxies and hardened by intergalactic battlesinto a seemingly unstoppable fighting corps. Sometimes peacekeepers, sometimesshock troops, the Legion is sent by the intergalactic "Galarchy" intothe most desperate internal and external conflicts. Led by serpentine MajorSarigar and the hot-tempered Jugger Grimrod, the unit confronts fantasticenemies across the galaxy as well as the complicated personal histories that ledthem to join the group in the first place. No matter what horrific battles orhorrendous characters they're challenged with, the members of Force Nomad liveby this code: Legionnaires live rough and they die hard, tough as tungsten andloyal to the dirty end.
