The cancellationof Birds of Prey was verified Monday by WB Entertainment presidentJordan Levin, according to a write-up in Variety. The frog exec talked about upcoming schedule changes and specifically addressedthe demise of the comic-based program.
Levin seemed toindicated that it was the execution of the show, not the comic-book premise, that led to the cancellation.
"We believeBirds proved that there was a fantasy audience and a male audiencethere," Levin told reporters. "Over the course of Birds'run that audience eroded, but those audiences came at first. Birdswas not moving in the right way creatively and it didn't have the auspices (tocontinue)."
The popular Buffyspin-off Angel will take over the 9:00 pm Wednesday nighttime-slot vacated by the DC Comics show.
