DVDFILE recently spoke to Guillermo del Toro, director of Blade II, about the upcoming DVD release of the Wesley Snipes film.
The running theme among the bonus material on the DVD, including commentaries, behind-the-scenes featurettes and interviews, is the sense that del Toro wants youto relax and enjoy the movie.
One of the many things he wanted to include in the special features is the presence of humor. "I wanted people not to be afraid of the behind-the-scenes stuff beinga PR document," says del Toro. "Most of the time the 'Making Of' pieces are just press releases for the movie. I wanted this to feel much more informal and much more relaxed and a lot more irreverent."
"Also included on the disc is an extensive behind-the-scenes look at the special effects make-up used and how the Reapers were created. Del Toro says that if he were17 or 18 he "would flip to see this kind of thing." He goes on to say, "You really, really want to put it there for the guys who are into the genre and into making movies. I want to put the DVD to the service of people who are that into the detail of the craft."
