What They Say
The prequel to one of the most graphic titles in Kitty Media History!

Long before Minase revived the Magic Club with his sex magic, the original club was run by Miss Takashiro. When she was a student alongside the future school nurse, Miss Kitami, she found the Black Book. When a raven-haired lesbian joins the club, familiar events are set in motion. Find out how Kitami and Takashiro were introduced to the power of sex!

The Review!
The third installment in the series takes things off to the side for a moment to present the origins of the series.

Audio:
For our primary viewing session, we listened to this disc in its original language of Japanese. Though it’s a very recent show, it follows the simple motto of almost all hentai shows and has just a basic stereo mix that’s pretty much all center channel based. Dialogue is nice and clear through and the music, which is fairly subtitle, is the main user of the left/right channels. We listened to the English track while writing the review and noted no issues there either.

Video:
Coming out not all that long after the Japanese release, the transfer here is just gorgeous with its rich colors. Fleshtones are greatly layered. There’s very little in terms of jaggies during camera panning sequences and gain is non-existent. Unlike the first two episodes on the first volume, cross coloration is pretty much a non-issue here, which makes this much easier to watch.

Packaging:
With the background a mix of reds and blacks done in the design of a pentagram with many runes written into it, it brings a lot of attention to the central character of Nami here in her school uniform while clutching the big bad book of magic. This is a great looking cover and is definitely eye-catching. The back cover provides a few shots from the show itself and a brief summary of the premise. Technical and production information is clearly listed at the bottom. The insert is a pretty simple piece with just chapter listings on one side and box art advertisements on the other.

Menu:
The main menu uses the same kind of style as the front cover and mixes in a few more characters to it, much more blended with the reds, and places it all underneath the triangle of selections that you can make. With little on the disc, there’s not much to choose from here. Access times are nice and fast and menus load quickly.

Extras:
None.

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)
Bible Black has definitely been an interesting series to watch. While the first volume was definitely a mix of pure violence and sex, the second volume went in a direction that just made me want to turn it off. The third volume, a two episode side story that goes back to tell the origins of all of this, manages to avoid just about all the things that made me gag in Second Sacrament. With Origins, I’m able to go back and enjoy the storyline, sex and violence.

Essentially, the story starts in the weeks before the first thing we see in the first volume, which was the ritual killing of a classmate to bring about the demons for the magic club to control. We know from there that things went badly, that the sacrifice did not work properly and that the woman running it, Nami, pretty much went nuts.

But why?

It’s here that we see the time beforehand, when Nami, a high ranking school council member, has it made in her school. One of her council mates is essentially her bitch while the men in general run in fear of her. Nami has no interest in men at all, something that becomes painfully apparent when one reject from her class tries to confess his feelings for her. She’s the model of the cold, calculating and conniving lesbian teenage woman who has some power.

She uses her influence at one point to get a trio of girls to be denied their application for a magic club to be formed in the school. The trio don’t take kindly to this, and using the tricks they’ve started to learn in translating one of the old books that they’ve come across, they cause a friend of Nami’s to end up prostrating herself in front of the entire class during an assembly, stripping down to nothing and bringing herself off without any control. It’s from this moment on that Takashiro and her two friends start using the powers they’ve gained and make use of them throughout the school. Other students come to them for romance/sexual spells that bring the objects of their affection under their control.

Takashiro even goes so far as to have one of the worst possible boys in the school suddenly become a man she’s insatiable for. Of course, that eventually turns into a situation where Takashiro frees Nami from this and she eventually joins the club. You can tell that she’s not going to be the good junior member that the others hoped for. Her own plans are set into motion and this eventually leads up to the sacrifice in the first volume.

Bible Black’s origin story moves away from the torture style sequences of Second Sacrament and back to the good clean nasty sex of the first volume. This continues to be heightened with the absolutely gorgeous school uniforms designed for the girls here. It’s just not something you’d see in a normal show where you can’t have that much detail on a regular basis. Here though, it works out great and the entire disrobing sequences are wonderfully done.

I don’t know that this volume has repaired the damage done by the second volume, but it’s definitely gone a long ways in not making me avoid the show in general. For those who cringed like I did, Origins is definitely worth checking out.
