
The movieversion of Daniel Clowes' Ghost World has enjoyed tremendouscritical recognition since its release last summer. Now the movie has received anomination from the most prestigious of all movie awards bodies: The Academy ofMotion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Clowes anddirector Terry Zwigoff have been nominated in the category of Adapted Screenplayfor their Ghost World script.
On Oscar nightthe pair will be vying with some stiff competition for the award. Also nominatedwere Akiva Goldsman for A Beautiful Mind, Rob Festinger and ToddField for In theBedroom, Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens and Peter Jackson for TheLord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and Ted Elliott &Terry Rossio, Joe Stillman and Roger S.H. Schulman for Shrek.
Prior to theOscar nomination the writer, director and actors from Ghost Worldhave received 16 nominations from other organizations. Star Thora Birch hascollected two awards in Best Actress categories while co-stars Steve Buscemi andScarlett Johansson have each picked up a trophy for their work in the movie.Clowes and Zwigoff have also collected a screenplay award and Zwigoff haspreviously taken home a directors award. The movie itself won Best Picture fromthe San Diego Film Critics Society.
GhostWorld was released on DVD and VHS earlier this month.
