I turned out tobe a battle of comic books at the box office this weekend as theunder-performing Men In Black II faced down the over-achieving RoadTo Perdition.
According toBrandon Gray of the ever-useful BoxOffice Mojo site, MIIB held the #1 spot for the second week ina row, but only took in an estimated $25 million, a significant nosediveof 52% from week one. The movie is now trailing in total earnings comparedto its predecessor during that movie's second week.
On the otherhand Road To Perdition showed a strong second place in its debutweekend, surprising because of the movie's relatively small release in only1,797 theaters. The Tom Hanks movie is getting rave reviews and collected anestimated $22.1 million.
The movie alsoedged out Reign of Fire which looked to be a contender for tophonors this week. The excellent dragon flick debuted at #3 taking in $16million.
