Director Brad Bird is about to release his first foray into the realm of large production live-action features, with Mission: Impossible- Ghost Protocol set to arrive in theaters in December. But it doesn't mean he may not return to his animated roots over at Pixar should the right opportunity come along. Which opportunity you ask? How about a second adventure centering on The Incredibles? While sitting down with Movies.com, the director has acknowledged the most common request---a sequel to his 2004 tale---by suggesting that he's open to the idea if the right story comes together.

“I want to do it because I have something that will be as good or better than the original. 'Toy Story 2' was, to me, a perfect sequel, because it absolutely respected the first film but found new places to go without selling out its characters. So if I could come up with an idea that is to 'The Incredibles' what 'Toy Story 2' is to 'Toy Story', I would do it in a second.”

“I would like to think that I have several good ideas that could be incorporated into a next 'Incredibles'," he says, "but I don’t have a whole movie yet, and the last thing I want to do is do it just because it would open big, or something like that.”

If the perfect story for The Incredibles 2 does come together, it will still be sometime before the finished product reaches the silver screen. As announced at this summer's D23 Expo, Walt Disney Pictures and Pixar have already planned their slate through May of 2014.

Brave arrives in theaters June 22, 2012.

Monsters University hits theaters June 21, 2013.

Untitled Dinosaur Project hits on November 27, 2013.

Untitled Human Mind Project will arrive on May 30, 2014.

Something you gotta respect about that.- Im glad there is official talk about it finally. Glad to see Bird is listening to his fans cry for a sequel to a great movie. Even if we do have to wait for a little longer we at least know the story will be worthy of the origional- Pixar fans have been waiting years for this one

I give the huge thumbs up and will pay cash money to see it in the theaters.  In fact, I actually hope that they make it in 3D.  The The Incredibles in 3D is they did it right would be very very cool.

I'm glad he's going to wait until he's got a whole movie and that he's not going to do a sequel just to do one just to make money. I think that's a jab at Cars 2.  It was clearly a money grab and not a sequal that anyone was clamoring for except for the Disney suits.

Let's hope Disney doesn't force it like they did with Cars 2. Then again Cars is just a merchandising cash cow while Incredibles were no where near that level when it came to selling toys.

I'd really love it if Disney/Marvel got back the movie rights for the Fantastic Four and did it as a Pixar film. But just as Galaxy Quest is one of the best Star Trek films unoffically, The Incredibles is the same for the FF.

@redvector

Was that Disney suits, or Disney sluts? Cars 2 was trash
