ArsenalEntertainment has set their sights on a number of comic book movie projectsrecently. In the past few months Comics2Film has reported that Arsenal isdeveloping Matt Wagner's Grendel and Larry Young's AstronautsIn Trouble.
Now C2Fhas learned that the producers there are working up a big-screenversion of the hard-boiled, devil-defying detective book JohnnyDynamite.
Our sources tellus that filmmaker John Ridley is attached to write and direct the movie. Ridleywrote and directed the 1997 feature Cold Around The Heart.
However, he maybe best known for creating the online web-toon Undercover Brotherwhich reached the big screen a few weeks ago as a live-action movie starringEddie Griffin. Ridley also wrote the screenplay for that one and served asexecutive producer as well.
The JohnnyDynamite movie is based on the 1994 mini-series by Max Allan Collinsand Terry Beatty. That series had the one-eyed detective traveling to Las Vegasand running afoul of a Faustian foe and his army of zombie henchmen.
The series waspublished by Dark Horse Comics.
Johnny Dynamitewas originally created by Pete Morisi in 1953. Collins and Beatty first revivedthe character for a back-up feature in their Ms. Tree comic.
