Recently, Eonline's Television maven Wanda invited Witchblade stars David Chokachi (detective Jake McCartey) and Eric Etebari (Ian Nottingham) to chat with fans. The two eagerly accepted and answered many questions about what lurks ahead this season and what it's like filming the show.
First up to answer questions was David Chokachi. One fan asked David how his character fits in this season, now that time has been altered and Sarah Pezzini's partner Danny is still alive. He replied, "Basically, I'm kind of the rotating third partner. Sara, Danny and I share time--and, actually, lately, in all the shows, we're teaming up as equal partners." Another fan asked David if Jake is going to get some payback for the various beatings Ian Nottingham gave him last season. David answered, "Well, we're not done shooting yet. So far, I haven't gotten the payback, but I'm still looking." David was very cryptic when asked if arch villain Kenneth Irons would be returning, "I don't want to give too much away but you can count on seeing him in one form or another..." David expressed how much he loved working on the show. When asked if he would do another season of Witchblade he said, "I would love to...Are you kidding? I would do this for a few more years. The show is so well done. And the writing, cast and crew--everybody is so great, it's fun to go to work." David was asked if Jake would get a chance to see some "action" with Sara outside of work. He replied, "You never say never, but someone is kind of wooing her on the show. I won't give it away, but the fans can discover it. I'm just looking for some guest-star action. I don't know if there are plans for that, because there are so many things going on in each episode that it's hard to get into our personal lives." Another fan wanted to know what David thought Jake's feelings for Sara were. He replied, "He has as huge amount of respect for her, because she leads by example. And she's a female in a male's world. Homicide is 90 percent male in reality. She has been through hard times and keeps on pushing through." Finally, one fan asked how the time change would effect this season. David said, "There's a lot of déjà vu. Sort of like Memento. A lot of that "I've been there before" feeling. It works for everyone, which is great, because they've been there and seen things. It's totally fun as an actor, and you can pick little moments and have that déjà vu. I think Sara realizes she's gone back in time, but we definitely don't."
Next up to answer fan's inquiries was Eric Etebari. One fan asked how Eric came up with the new persona of Ian for season two. He answered, "I read most of the comic books in the beginning, and then I decided to take the character and run with it on my own, once I got a grasp of who he was. I went backward and worked on the Ian before the comic book." When asked how Ian feels towards Sara Pezzini and how do those feelings effect him, Eric replied, "I think this season he has gone from having all these sensitive feelings toward her to being more adolescent, immature and impulsive toward her." Another fan asked if Ian will ever totally betray Kenneth Irons. Eric answered, "Completely. Whether or not he would have regret for such a choice remains to be seen." Eric told how Nottingham's relationship with Sara is changed now that Kenneth Irons is supposedly dead. He said, "It's more aggressive, unpredictable and physical. He has all the qualities of a 16-year-old who has a crush on someone who doesn't pay any attention to him. Which could cause a character to question himself--and his being." Another fan asked Eric if the viewers would get any more info about Nottingham's background. He replied, "I think the way I've chosen to play the character, marking him as a 10-year-old, you'll be able to answer your own questions. You'll know much more about Ian and you'll witness the evolution. And that, as a whole, should give you an answer." Finally, a fan asked Eric how he would like to see his character develop. He said, "Cold and heartless--that was Nottingham 2.0. I think he's going to become more compassionate and draw his own line of ethics, which will fly in the face of his own lifestyle and make him interesting to watch. More confident in his ideas and choices. A sense of invincibility. It can make for a very interesting, dangerous character."
