X-Men 2director Bryan Singer was on hand Friday afternoon at the 2003 Greater LosAngeles Auto Show for a press preview of the new Mazda RX-8, which is featuredin the film. The futuristic looking metallic blue sports coupe makes a cameo inthe film, although fans won't be seeing it on the streets until 2004.
During thethirty minute show, Singer drove the car out from behind a curtain, and banteredwith Charlie Hughes, president and chief executive officer of Mazda NorthAmerican Operations. The whole production was staged in a 'movie theme' rightdown to theater style seating. The audience was then shown a short clip of theupcoming X-men sequel, highlighting the car, of course.
Singer alsorevealed he is quite the sports-car enthusiast during the after presentationinterviews.
"It's great,"Singer said. "It's very quick. It's weighted like a sports car," adding,"it shifts comfortably" and "the brakes are great."
