What They Say
Train Heartnet, also known as "Black Cat," was an infamous assassin for a secret organization called Chronos...until he abandoned that cold-blooded existence to live on his own terms as an easygoing bounty hunter. But is Train's past as far behind him as he thinks?
As a SweeperAfter fighting their way to the center of Creed's Hideout, Train and Sven find their way blocked by the unexpected appearance of the Chrono Numbers. They're stopping the Sweepers so that they can take down Creed by themselves. But the Numbers find their own surprise--Creed appears to have become indestructible!
At the start of the volume, we rejoin Sephiria in her battle with Creed. By way of her immense speed, Sephiria is able to land a critical blow, only to find Creed not only unfazed, but healing at a rapid pace. Through the power of his super nanotech, Breath of God, his body is constantly regenerated, making him immortal with the exception of his brain. Seeing that her wounds have begun to slow her down, Sephiria decides to use her ultimate attack, Mekkai World Destroyer, despite the detrimental effects it may have on her. The incredibly powerful attack seems to meet its mark and destroy Creed, but when the smoke clears he reveals that he managed to dodge it by releasing his Imagine Blade to its third level.
We then switch perspectives to Train’s group, who soon run into Echidna along with two members of the Kiseitai, a group who have been altered to be more living weapon than human beings. Echidna tells Train to go on ahead and confront Creed, an offer which Train accepts, leaving Sven and Eve to fight the mechanized monsters. We also find that elsewhere in the mansion, members of the Chrono Numbers are under assault by the remaining members of the Kiseitai.
Over the remainder of the volume, we see the Kiseitai prove tougher than originally thought, and Train finally begins his battle with Creed. Sickened that Train refuses to kill him despite no other options for ending the battle, Creed unleashes his Imagine Blade to level three and prepares to kill his former comrade.
As the volume closes, we are treated to a bonus chapter detailing the first meeting of Train and Sven.
This volume does a solid job setting up for the conclusion in the next book, displaying Creed’s immense powers that seem nearly unbeatable, and even giving the side characters some interesting surprise villains to confront. All of the loose ends seem to be tying together, and all the players are finally in place. Hopefully the stage that this volume sets will be utilized to its fullest, because if it is we’re in for a thrilling conclusion.
