Rucka Thinks Beckinsale is Pretty, Good in WHITEOUT

Comics creator Greg Rucka chatted with MTV Splash Page about Kate Beckinsale, who brings his character U.S. Marshal Carrie Stetko to life in the film 'Whiteout'.

Rucka said he initially felt the same concerns as fans, who said Beckinsale was too pretty to play the tough lawman, out to solve a murder in the bitter environs of Antarctica. But, a visit to the set convinced him she was right for the part.

"The first time I walked on the set I saw her wearing the wig, and she had on a little hat and they’re doing a scene that takes place at Russian base in Antarctica," explained Rucka. "She was Kate Beckinsale — she’s astonishingly pretty aside from being astonishingly talented — but somehow she really looked like Carrie. She was Carrie."

IRON MAN 2: Gwyneth Paltrow out of the Loop

While prowling the red carpet of 'Two Lovers', MTV News tried to pry some 'Iron Man 2' secrets out of Gwyneth Paltrow. Sadly the actress seems to know little about the sequel (which is set to begin filming in April) other than the fact that she's in it.

"They haven’t even given me a script yet," Paltrow told MTV News. "They don’t tell me anything. I could be, like, a costume assistant in it. I know nothing."

And what of the evolution of her character's relationship with Robert Downey Jr's Tony Stark? No clue there, either.

"I have no idea what it is. Jon Favreau said it would be good, so I believe him."

IRON MAN 2: Eliza Dushku wants to be Black Widow

In other 'Iron Man 2' news, 'Dollhouse' actress Eliza Dushku says that if Emily Blunt can't work out her schedule she'd love to take her place as the Black Widow in the movie.

/Film recounts an appearance Dushku made on the Howard Stern Show on on Sirius/XM Radio.

The actress told Stern, "They’re doing 'Iron Man 2', and I’m so perfect for the Black Widow character, that they just need to get into it. They need to understand… I just learned Russian because I had to play a Russian girl in 'Dollhouse'."

What about it Maniacs? Is Eliza a good fit for the part?

WATCHMEN Fun and Games

Wanted vigilante Rorschach

The New Frontiersman continues to cough up artifacts from the fictional history of 'Watchmen' recently posted items include:

  • A 1978 memo from Whitehouse Chief of Staff Alexander Haig to the various heads of security in the U.S. Government discussing the Keene act and how it will affect the government's interests and relationships with Dr. Manhattan and The Comedian.
  • A 1978 police report detailing police officer injuries following an encounter with rouge vigilante Rorschach.
  • A November 1978 poster establishing Rorschach as a wanted vigilante.

Meanwhile, CBR has a hands-on walkthrough of the 'Watchmen: The End is Nigh' video game, which serves as a prelude to the film. The game will be available for download on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade in March 2009. The game will also be available on Windows PC, and is Rated-M for Blood, Violence, and strong language. Check it out for images and details.

What? Rorschach worry?

/Film has a first look at the cover of Mad Magazine, which aims to skewer the film in an upcoming issue. The cover features an image of MAD mascot Alfred E. Neuman dressed as Rorschach.

Oh yeah, and there's a new trailer for 'Tales of the Black Freighter' up today. Keep reading...

Jason Schwartzman and the SCOTT PILGRIM Cover Up?

It looks as if actor Jason Schwartzman may be appearing in Edgar Wright's 'Scott Pilgrim vs. The World' movie.

The Playlist blog points readers to a Variety article regarding the 'Adventurer's Handbook' movie. They state that the article contains the cryptic mention: "Schwartzman next shoots the HBO series pilot "Bored to Death," and then stars in Universal's 'Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World."

However, if you actually visit the article, the sentence ends with the "Bored to Death" mention. So what gives. Well, we poked around Google News and discovered that Google's cached text of the article does contain the complete sentence, with the bit regarding 'Scott Pilgrim'. Clearly someone at Variety revised the article and redacted that part.

Playlist has more info. They checked with thier sources in Toronto, who say that Schwartzman has "been on Wright's mind from day one to play the ultimate 7th evil boyfriend, Gideon Gordon Graves."

So why all the secrecy. It could be that Schwartzman's deal isn't sealed yet, and the article was tamped down to protect the negotiations. It will be interesting to see if a proper announcement is coming soon.

Can't get the video to come up at work, so I'll have to watch at home. Not ultra hyped about it, though. The Black Freighter parts kind of slowed down the reading of Watchmen for me.  I'm not one of those purists who feels that it has to be integrated into the film.  I think the film can do just fine with the Black Freighter scenes excised.

Dushku is smokin', but I don't know if she's a good enough actress to play in IM2.  Got Dollhouse set to DVR, though!

The animation style for Black Freighter looks similar to BatMan: Gotham Knight. I'll probably check this out as a rental.

Great pics of Wolverine but  what I don't understand is why they simply couldn't give Gambit his black and red eyes it's not that hard.I saw toy pics of Deadpool  having the scarred skin but also having single claws coming out of his hand.

You know it's funny when I was Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back a couple weeks ago and seeing Dushku in that black skin tight costume thinking she would make a good Black Widow too.If Blunt doesn't work out I like to see Dushku in it.

Black Freighter I'll be getting.

Yeah, the eyes are kind of bothering me too.

Black Freighter....yes, yes and yes.

For some reason I suddenly feel the need to go buy herbal essence hair care products. Damn you MTV !!!!!!!!

Has anyone noticed that they are playing the Watchmen trailers in front of Fox Studios movies? It showed before Notorius this weekend which is a Fox movie. Must be part of the agreement.
