Spike TV's original series BLADE has been canceled due to poor ratings.

In an interview with Sci Fi Wire a Spike TV representative said, "It won't be renewed for a second season. I can tell you that Spike TV was very happy with the creative part of Blade. The cast, the actual production. We absolutely enjoyed working with New Line and [executive producer] David Goyer, [writer] Geoff Johns. But honestly, the network was disappointed with the audience turnout and the ratings. But I can tell you that New Line is going to be issuing a DVD of the entire season."

The show, which was based on the BLADE movies, had a run of only 13 episodes.

I watched the pilot.

Actually, I watched the first five minutes of the pilot and then used my TiVo to watch the rest of the show in 4X fast-forward.

And no, I'm not joking.

" But honestly, the network was disappointed with the audience turnout and the ratings."

Translation: We didn't like the demographics! WOMEN were watching!

This annoys me so much. they found out the show appealed to women so they gave it the axe. Eff you, Spike!

There is a movement to get Sci-Fi Channel to pick it up. They just ended Stargate SG-1, so they have an opening in their schedule now.

Be sure to e-mail!

I thought it had a great production value and really turned up the action for a TV series, but I goots be honest.... I couldn't seem to remember to tune in every week either.

It was really well written (with scripts by comic pros Geoff Johns and David Goyer!) and Johns was planning to bring in Moon Knight in the second season.

Spike really dropped the ball. The most annoying part is WHY they cancelled it. They found out 40% of the audience was women, and felt that wasn't the demographic they wanted.

Maybe Lifetime will pick it up.

What is it about vampires and women? Buffy was the same way. Are women mostly closet necrophilias?
