Back in June of 2008, around the time that the first real trailer for Watchmen surfaced, Warner Bros. found themselves with huge orders for the graphic novel of the highly popular Watchmen book. DC Comics talked for months and months afterward about the stellar sales and orders for the book which eclipsed just about everything else out there. Now, after eleven months of taking the top spot in the chart, Watchmen has finally subsided - temporarily possibly since the home video version is due out and marketing will ramp up again - as the manga side has conquered once more. Little surprise that Tite Kubo's title Bleach is ranking at the top with new episodes airing on Cartoon Network and a continual push and presence of the popular property.
Manga dominates overall in the top twenty for the month of June 2009 with only three non-manga properties scoring a nod: Watchmen, Final Crisis and Buffy the Vampire Slayer trades. Naruto makes up a good chunk of the sales with spillover from the previous marketing push in May while Viz Media in general has a lot of very popular properties continuing to hold slots in the charts.
