What They Say
With reports of powerful intruders defeating a number of assistant captains, the inner sanctum of the Soul Society - the Seireitei, the home of the Soul Reapers - is put on a state of high alert. Matters are further compounded by the mysterious death of a prominent captain. Is his death a cover-up to prevent a valuable secret from being exposed?

Meanwhile, Ichigo confronts Kenpachi Zaraki, captain of the 11th company, and by far the most brutal fighter in the Seireitei!

The Review
As Ichigo and company continue their push towards the Senzaikyu to rescue Rukia, the tension and mystery within the Soul Reaper outfit is increasing rapidly. It seems now with each volume, Tite Kubo is adding in some new twist or shocking discovery that changes the dynamics of the characters as well as the mood of the story, with this 12th volume having probably the biggest shocker as of yet. There is also some much needed and appreciated background story included here surrounding Ichigo and Chad's first meeting and what their relationship means to each other. It is very touching and EXTREMELY shounen. And more of Chad is always a good thing.

VIZ's production continues to be decent, with the highlights including another character on the cover (no repeats yet!) and some nice extras: a hilarious Radio-Kon Baby interview with Ishida and a side-story chapter following Mizuiro.
