What They Say
The dreadful Diva sends her chevaliers to kidnap Riku, Saya's adoptive brother, from the Red Shield's ocean-liner headquarters. New secrets from Saya and Hagi's past lives are revealed, as their present situation gets more complicated. Finding a way to make Saya go berserk and turn into a nearly unstoppable killing machine, Diva intends to pit her against her own friends and those she seeks shelter with . . . and this is just the first step in Diva's ultimate plan to turn all humans into chiropteran monsters! With Kai and Hagi at her side, Saya fights Diva's forces as well as her own bloodlust. Dark Horse Manga's Blood+ series heads into its violent, pulse-pounding home stretch!
Diva and Saya have been dying to get together for decades now, albeit for very different reasons. Diva just wants to play with Saya, while Saya desires Diva’s death and the elimination of all Chiropterans. Although, Diva’s twisted idea of ‘playing’ would probably leave Saya dead, so I guess they do have similar goals on that count.
With Diva and her Chevaliers invading the Red Shield’s floating base, or yacht if you will, there may be no way out alive for lowly humans. Their ultimate goal is to kidnap Riku in the hope that his Chevalier status will allow him to mate with Diva. However, as things unfold, it seems there may be different factions forming among Diva’s Chevaliers. Anshel is advancing his plan of using a drug filtered through a pharmaceutical company to turn humans into Chiropterans, while Solomon is obsessed with forcing Diva to give birth to a Chiropteran. Both men possess similar ends, but very different means and it seems there differences may prove fatal to each other.
Diva could care less about her servant’s machinations. She desperately wants to see the berserker Saya, so she sings her song that has the power to transform Saya. Just as it did during the Vietnam War, this tactic proves fruitful as Saya becomes a berserker and begins killing everyone, Chevalier and human alike. This situation also reveals more of the Vietnam-era storyline and how Hagi failed his master. This revelation also sets up the importance of later scenes as Hagi and Kai attempt to free Saya from her bloodlust. Ultimately, this is the first time we get to look into Hagi’s true feelings. All good stuff, I assure you.
The plot twists don’t end there, as Chiropteran killers created by Anshel attack Saya and Hagi by nullifying their ability to heal. David reveals the true reason for his loyalty to Red Shield. Finally, Diva crawls into to bed with Riku, for better or for worse.
This is another great volume and I eagerly await the next and final volume of this series.
