BLOODRAYNE is set in 1723 where evil rules Eastern Europe. Evil Lord Kagan has so much power that no one stands boldly against him. No one dares try. And as great as his power is, Kagan has an opportunity to become utterly invincible. Three secret treasures, once united in his presence will give Kagan immortal powers of untold horror.

Throughout history there have always been those brave few who take up a cause for the good of mankind. The Brimstone Society is a small, but mighty group made up of just these kind of men -- and women. They have banded together to care for each other and to make themselves the avengers of the weak. To smite evil where they can and to perhaps someday restore law and order to the rest of society.

As these two forces converge, there are whispers across the land about a legend. A young and beautiful woman might harbor the secrets to defeat the mighty Kagan. Will Brimstone find her before Kagan does? If they find her, will she help them or go her own way? Even if she does help, will it be enough to defeat the evil armies of Kagan? And what is her dark secret that would make even Kagan fear her?

The home page for the offcial site looks stupid (is she riding a broomstick or something??) but the site itself is alright. Giant arm blades look like a real chore to carry around when put in real life. Let's hope this movie has more life to it than Underworld.

Yes! Here comes the latest masterwork of Dr. Uwe Boll! I really hope he continues to borrow the work of directors he deems superior (who are actually mediocre at best (Aronofsky, Merendino)), it makes his movies so much more enjoyable. Oh, and it's always great to see him get more talented actors to waste per movie... oh, I can't keep the sarcasm up.

How is it that this man gets better actors every damn movie? First it was Homeroom: Heart Of America with Maria Conchita Alonzo, Michael Pare, Jurgen Prochnow and Clint Howard (The latter two in House Of The Dead as well), then Christian Slater, Stephen Dorff, and Tara Reid ('celebrity' power over acting), now Ben Kingsley (Ghandi!), Michael Madsen, and Billy Zane (with other notables)?! His next project has Ray Liotta, John Rhys-Davies, Ron Perlman, Burt Reynolds, Leelee Sobieski, Jason Statham and Matthew Lillard?! What the hell is the world coming to?!

Oh, I forgot, actors do work for paychecks sometimes. Not that I can blame them, but christ, get some common sense. Uwe Boll has the power to destroy video games, films, and careers.

I like Michelle a lot. However......Boll, video-game source material...I just don't expect much here.

As the sick and twisted individual who passed this little tidbit along to the Cinescape crew, I must say I'm actually looking forward to this one.

Incidentally, the reason they set the game in 1723 was specifically to avoid undue comparison with Underworld for the franchise's introduction. Let's be honest, looking at the game itself when set in the modern say, the look certainly parallels Underworld to an appreciable extent. If a sequel moves into the present day, then the films already have created their own voice.

Also, the "broomstick" is her right hand blade. It's merely the angle it has to the camera and it's position that makes it look like she's riding it. (Man would that hurt big time...)

I know that many consider Boll a modern day Ed Wood, but I'm at least optimistic.

House of the Dead was the first movie I've ever seen where I literally sat there waiting for the ending. I wasn't about to just walk out and waste my money any further...but the end couldn't have come any faster.

With Alone in the Dark...I learned to wait for video for one of Boll's movies...and now I want my $3.99 back.

Bloodrayne? I just cant get high hopes...the footage I've seen truely does look terrible. Something you'd expect from the team behind Xena and Hercules...only without the small drops of fun they had.

Well, I totally disagree with yotu, on the Underworld comment. I mean what what more did you want? The story was solid. The action, good. The cinematography, yes, done before, but still well done. From someone who appreciates Vamp movies, I would say they did a great job and look forward to the sequel.
Anyway, I usually don't like to diss directors, because, they are the catalyts to great movies. They are supposed to have their own unique vision, which the audience either gets or doesn't. Uwe Boll, however, is a hack. He does use other directors styles, but in movies that totally don't fit the style. Darren Aronofsky is a great director, and his own way of telling a story visually, but it works for him, because he doesn't use it in "genre" films.
I`m going to see Bloodrayne, but am not expecting it to be anything more but an eye candy film(Kristanna Loken, Michelle) Boll will most definitely ruin yet another movie. Just some advice to him: Get your own style!!

"Smite"? Who uses that word anymore? Oh, right, writers who adapt video games to screen plays.

• Sep 19, 2005, 10:30am •
Hey, I use "smite" all the time. Along with "doth, methinketh, and yon", but that is one corny sentence. "to smite evil where they can"? Come on.I`d like to "smite" down whoever wrote that. Hey Uwe, the 1920's called they want their early Hollywood, descriptive action movie jargon back.

Lol, that was pretty funny. I thought underworld was a pretty good movie, with a good take on vamps and werewolves and their relationship. As far as Boll goes, even he has admitted to basically "collecting a paycheck" and mailing in his efforts during direction. Maybe we can just hope that with all this practice, he will continue to get better. They cant all utterly , can they? Not as bad as Alexandra..er I mean Alexander...

I also thought Underworld was a welcome addition to Vampire filmlore, and I quickly added it to my collection. I'm looking forward to the second installment. As for Uwe Boll, his movies have one or two enjoyable moments but that's it. I don't know if he's still learning his craft as a director and is unsure of his "vision" for his films, or if he's just a lousy director. He seems to waste his talents' acting abilities with awful plots and dialogue. I could almost forgive that if his movies were so visually stunning that I didn't notice wafer-thin stories, but the overall "look" of his movies tends to remind me of low-grade B schlock. I'm not saying I would be able to make a better film (I'd give it a shot though), but shouldn't the producers and photography directors be giving him a few notes?
