Well, with so many remakes of horror cult classics getting updated for the PG-13 audience (Prom Night springs to mind), horror fans may be interested to hear that the the remake of My Bloody Valentine 3-D isn't going that route. Thespian Kerr Smith talked to Ryan Rotten's crew at Screamfest and revealed after the recent MPAA R-rating that his January film doesn't have to worry about the watered down effect.
When I informed him that an official MPAA rating was in (it's rated R), the actor grinned. "It's going to be a hard R," he promises. "There's a lot of blood, man. A lot of killing. It's scary. What I love about this film - because when you do a lot of thrillers it's a crapshoot, some people phone it in and whatever - but no one phoned it in on this one. Everybody did a great job. Patrick [Lussier] had a terrific vision. He knew every scene and he helped make the actors make it a compelling story."
The Lions Gate film stars Jaime King, Jensen Ackles, Kerr Smith, Kevin Tighe and Megan Boone. Director Patrick Lussier led the production, based on a screenplay by Zane Smith.
Plot Summary: In George Mihalka's 1981 original slasher film, a killer by the name of Harry Warden (a miner driven mad) wreaks havoc on a small town during their Valentine's Day celebrations.
My Bloody Valentine 3-D will hit theaters January 16, 2009.
