I hear it's just going to be a blah movie. But we are hungry for a good movie over here. So it's a good time for an over produced movie.

It seems MGM's latest Bond adventure Quantum of Solace is a major success even before it hits U.S. theaters. The film, which opens in local theaters this Friday, broke the bank and destroyed the oversea competition by pulling in an estimated $106.5 million at 9,870 theaters in 60 territories, which makes it the 11th biggest international debut ever.
If you combine the previous weekend's foreign tallies, the Daniel Craid-led 007 flick has already grossed $160.3 million from international markets alone. Along with the U.S., it has yet to open up in Australia, Japan, Mexico and Spain.
It topped the bows of Casino Royale -- top foreign grosser among Bond films at $429 million -- in each of its 57 new markets, with the openings in 13 of those markets more than doubling the "Casino" launches.

I'm hearing that it's a very good action movie but that it is lacking the character development you'd expect to follow on the heels of CR. You'd also expect it to be more of a character piece considering Marc Forster, the director, has sort of made his niche in character dramas. Plus he's often cited as the only director in history to coax a performance out of Halle Berry that makes her look like she has any talent. Having not seen Monster's Ball I'll hold my tounge, but I'd have to say I've got doubts on that one.
None of the reviews I've read have called this a bad movie, they were just expecting more of a character drama. I'm far less excited to see the movie than I was two weeks ago when the first reviews started to trickle out. If they're accurate, I will be kind of put out we're getting wall to wall action instead of getting in Bond's head, I'll be really put out that they're trying to make a carbon copy of the Bourne trilogy and there'll be one thing I'm just out right pissed about. I won't post that last bit here so as not to spoil it.
I'm not concerned w/the rumored lack of "character development". Remember, QofS picks up 20 min. after the end of CR. At the end of CR Bond was angry & heartbroken so it stands that these emotions would carry through to his next "mission". I'm looking forward to a pissed-off Bond wreaking havoc around the world.
Damn, I can't wait to see this movie and the US is last to see it! It's funny how Timothy Dalton's version of Bond was rejected while Daniel Craig's is well liked and they are so similar. I guess it's the more realistic stories and less gadgets.
