The producers for Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa must be breathing a sigh of relief. For months, the animated sequel has been ready to debut alongside the next James Bond adventure Quantum of Solace on November 7, 2008. Now, Columbia Pictures is passing along a press release indicating that they're moving the Bond film to the following weekend in light of the recent Harry Potter move.
Of course, this new November 14, 2008 release day means Bond will be going up against Baz Luhrmann's Australia epic, Nothing Like the Holidays, Role Models and Soul Men.
Here's the brief statement. Columbia Pictures and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures, announced today that it will release Quantum of Solace on November 14th in North America. "The strategic move places the highly-anticipated James Bond adventure one week closer to the prime movie-going holiday window and takes advantage of last week's decision to move the release date of 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,'" said the studios.
"We saw the film recently in London and Marc Forster, Daniel Craig and the entire team at EON have truly delivered another extraordinary Bond adventure," said Jeff Blake, Chairman of Worldwide Marketing and Distribution for the Columbia Tristar Motion Picture Group. "'Quantum of Solace' is a seamless continuation of the storyline that began with the last film. We believe November 14th is a great date that allows us to play straight through Thanksgiving and right into Christmas. The Bond films have a long history of entertaining audiences in this holiday corridor going back to Goldeneye in 1995. The studio enjoyed tremendous success opening 'Casino Royale' in North America on November 17, 2006, and we believe this decision will give the public a wider opportunity to see the film over the holiday."
Quantum of Solace will begin its worldwide roll out on October 31.
This will give the movie a better chance to have success all by itself at the box office...great move. From what I've seen of the clips it will deliver for the holiday run....
I hated Casino Royale! I know surprise, surprise right? But I much prefer the Sly Fox Bond to the Raging Bull Bond! Plus the gadgets are half the fun! No gadgets reduces the cool factor by at least half! Bring back Brosnan you b@stards! BTW Isn't this the movie where Craig wanted to turn to Bond into a Bi-sexual or something? Also I don't know who that lady is but she ugly!
I enjoyed Brosnan's Bond, but the movies just so fucking stupid. Casino Royale was awesome and really brought Bond back to the world of reality and physics. I am sure it will make better money not going up against Madagascar. The kid draw is huge. I can't wait for this Bond film.
I agree Whiskey. Brosnan was fine, but other than the first the movies were just so so for bond films. I got tired of the gadgets. They started to make the movie around them. That's the wrong way to go.
Movies now remind me of the good old days. Bond is back and better than ever (well, don't get me wrong I still like Connery the best).
I'll wait a week more, it's not like they moved it back to July like some other aceholes.
Casino Royale wasn't just cool, it was off-the-fucking-chain awesome. I can't wait for Quantum of Solace. I was a HUGE fan of Connery, some Brosnan, and even a couple of the Moore Bond films, but Daniel Craig's Bond really shows us the sonofabitch that James Bond was in the books. I would like to see them work in a couple of small gadgets (I LOVED the briefcase in From Russia With Love), but nothing over-the-top. I totally agree with makabriel that the more recent Bond films included gadgets that were impractical, unrealistic (beyond even what a good suspension of disbelief could handle), and even outright silly.
Hanso, it's been moved to Nov 14. It sucks, but at least it does eliminate the worry of Madagascar 2 stealing some of its thunder.
im looking forward to the next Bond movie , from russia with love is one my favorites an on her majasys secert service too . thunderball began the gadgets an if it wasnt for Brosnen Bond , it wouldnt had lasted this long . Craig isnt bad as Bond , they just changed the editing to a faster Bourne way 21th century movie making . hey we all changed over the years an things must change , as did Bond . i hope he lasts a long time . Bond is the grand daddy of action films to the next Bond and beyond . cheers .
