The two top spots at the box office went to horror-related material this weekend. Although THE BONE COLLECTOR fell short of initial estimates that pegged its debut at $17.2-million, it still wound up in first place with a three-day total of $16.7-million. Meanwhile, HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL, which had been pegged for a drop to third place, actually edged into second with $7.7-million (ahead of THE BACHELOR's $7.5-million).

On the exclusive release front, both BEING JOHN MALKOVICH and PRINCESS MONONOKE climbed up the box office charts after expanding into more theatres. MALKOVICH took in $1.85-million for the 14th spot (it was 17th last week), while PRINCESS MONONOKE moved from #33 to #24, with a weekend haul of $384,220. With both film still playing in only a handful of theatres nationwide, these are fairly impressive numbers.
