BOO scares up Halloween DVD date
Date: Thursday, August 18, 2005BOO, the first feature film written and directed by Cinescape Editor in Chief Anthony C. Ferrante, is finally arriving just in time for Halloween.
Making its DVD debut on October 25 through Ventura Distribution, the atmospheric ghost story is getting an extras-laden disc according to the film's producer David E. Allen.
"The film will be in widescreen format with 5.1 sound," says Allen. "I am a true DVD aficionado, always wanting to know more about a movie I've watched. Because of that, I always make sure we include great DVD extras for the fans. BOO will include three featurettes on the Making of the film, the evolution of the special make-up and visual effects and one on the history of the haunted hospital we shot at. It will also include a commentary with our director, producers and editor, as well as deleted scenes."
BOO is the first film under Allen's Graveyard Filmworks (a division of his Kismet Entertainment) which was designed to focus solely on independent horror movies.
"Unlike some of the 'suits' at the studios who try to make horror films, I am a huge fan of horror, as is Anthony and everyone else I've surrounded myself with," says Allen. "I started Kismet to make good independent films out of great stories. Everyone who has directed for me is either a first or second time director, and I greatly appreciate that enthusiasm that comes from their heart and soul....dare I say, their spirit. I believe it means a great deal to them to be working with someone who understands the story, who sees the script and shots as they do, to understand their vision and the goal they are hoping to accomplish. The majority of the time I deal with film geeks, as I am one myself, and we are all on the same wavelength. And it's not about making money for me. I'm not in this business for the sole need of making profits, as studios are directed to do by corporate parents. I am making films because I love doing it. So yeah, I'm very different from the execs, in that I truly understand the needs of the director, the writer and the actors. Plus I put my own money into my films, usually fully financing the entire show. Let's hear a studio exec say that!"
BOO is also appearing at two high-profile film fests this month as well The Fantasy Fest in Germany and London's Fright Fest which Allen says is a precursor to a limited theatrical release in October.
"The Fantasy Fest in Germany contacted us, after having seen BOO at Cannes, and were very excited to get the film into their festival," says Allen. "We are also planning a small limited theatrical in selected cities during the month of October, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled for that. And who knows, I see BOO comic books, Jacob action figures, and definitely BOO 2."
