Wiseguy,

your entire last post couldn't be more wrong...

"I've read quite a few of Millar's works and they don't make me drool. He's an okay writer who did a pretty damn good job with the Ultimates (the first time around), everything else is just okay with lots of violence and curse words which always attracts the juvenile minded." - This statement is contradictory. Sure you read Ultimates, but then it sounds like you've only read Wanted, and Kick_ass. MOST of his volumes of work are NOT laced with profanity and violence. IF you actually read his works you would know that.

"And whoever paid 100 bucks for the set is a fool unless it included some of the rare variants. The straight up set with original covers sell for much less. And this is for a book with a minimal run over the shop orders, meaninmg the market wasn't flooded with copies like it would've been if it was a company owned book. So let's not get too excited cause some naive shopper overpaid" - Dude you can try to justify it however you want, the fact of the matter is that there are people who will shell out money for this. Did the guy who just paid 1.5 Mil. for Action #1 overpay?  A collectible is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. Kick-Ass is seling, people want it. I know peeps who are buying the trades after seeing the flick. Your argument is all opinion, and not based on any facts.

"And Cameron isn't out there hyping his films, the people he let peek at AVATAR were the ones that got the ball rolling." - SOOOOO sneajk Previews, and "AVATAR DAY" and all the hype surrounding Avatar, wasn't Cameron? BULL S#IT!

You may not like Millar, BUT he is very talented, you won't ever know because your too unwilling to find out, it's easier just to hate on him, and call him a hack.

Don't read him, YOUR LOSS

Umm was no one bothered by the "pre cgi" comment about Conan? Are they gonna make the actor more muscular or something? This worries me for some reason...I will begin to whimper as soon as I read the words Conan 3-D which is inevitable.

I don't hate Milar. Like I said he know how to create some really good stories. I definitely wouldn't call him just "okay" He's no Geoff Johns or Claremont, but the dude is good. He's probably on par with BMB.

Wiseguy 3/31/2010 4:49:39 PM

Actually gauley, everything I wrote is the truth. You can keep denying it to yourself but that won't change anything.

Millar's stories usually succumb to the lowest common denominator. Hey, there ain't nothing wrong with that, I like violence and cursing too but let's not dilute ourselves, or do, it's your prerogative

The price on the comics is a fact also, you can check yourself. But hey if your friend got that off good for him. You know what they say, there's one born every minute, your friend got lucky that he ran into one

And I don't know why your obsessed with Cameron cause you seem to always bring him or Avatar up everytime we have a debate. But here's the difference, and if you're true to yourself you'll know it, the hype follows Cameron. Anything he does, wants to do, is planning to do the media is on his ass trying to get a sniff while Millar is on twitter and basically jumping and screaming for attention. Making up shit or embelishing for attention.

gauleyboy420 3/31/2010 5:18:34 PM

Uh,

Wiseguy ,why are you being such a ...Wiseguy?

You claim to have read enough of Millars books to know all about his writing, but it's painfully obvious you have only read a few, and yes they may be the most vulgar of his works. The dude has written some seriously brilliant, thought provoking material, and as a matter of fact the minority of his work is ultra violent, and laced with cussing. He's been at it for a long time now, and has found a way to promote himself to make dolla bills ! but if you really were familiar with his work , you'd know it is not just Wanted, Kick-As, and Nemesis.

Why is it so hard for you to admid you really havent read mor than two or three of his stories?

Maybe YOU should check the prices of Kick-Ass on Ebay... I didn't say the books were worth thousands, all I said was a book that came out a year ago has tripled in value. Go ahead look it up. It's not that big of a deal. it went from $4 to $12. But lots of Non-Variant #1 are getting a good price... Hell thats not even important to me as I'm a enthusiast collector, not an investment collector

AND I'm definitely not obsessed with Cameron, and RARELY bring him up. If I'm lying show me examples of me "ALWAS" bringing him up.... In this particular case I do it not  in a negative way, just to point out that it's not a bad thing to pimp yourself, everyone does it. The hype doesn't follow cameron, don't fool yourself into thinking his army of publicist aren't out there creating the hype for him. Millar just has to do it on a more modest budget, i.e. being loud...

Wiseguy, not that you know who I am or how I've been reading this page since it was Cinescape years ago, but I have to agree with Gauley on this one... I like Millar, but he does tend to lean toward the violence and the profanity.. Not that there is any thing wrong with either, but there are other ways to sell a mag....  Just MHO... Not that it matters anyway...  And Cameron does rock... In a left-wing, the military or corps are always the bad guys, kinda way...

Here's a list of comics by Millar I've read... There are more, but these are the ones I'm familiar with. I have Bolded the ones I believe to be self-Indulgent. Convienently two of them have been made into movies, and have garnered more attention than the others... Those are the two you are thinking of when you cite his work as vulgar and overly violent.

@Calibur454 I mostly agree but with the possible exception of a Warriors Three movie, I see no spin-off opportunities out of Thor...

Cheesey1 3/31/2010 8:22:13 PM

I'm not against Millar's self promotion, so far he seems to be able to mostly back it up. I don't go out of my way to buy his stuff, per se. If he's on a title that I'm reading, cool, but I won't buy stuff specifically 'cause he's writing it. That being said, my younger bro. watched Kick Ass and he say's that it's pretty, f'ing good and that's an understatement. Of course M. Vaughn deserves some credit too, but I still don't want Vaughn on a Marvel film if he won't toe the line. As far as Millar and latino review...f*&k laino review, racist pricks, which means that they also don't have journalistic credibility (they wish that they were good enough to be on the bottom of the shoe of the late night news announcer for the local CW affiliate), so I'm taking Millar's side.
