The sequel to the cult hit, THE BOONDOCK SAINTS, is set to begin production. The cast is all set to return, excluding Willem Dafoe.

A box office flop and critical bomb, THE BOONDOCK SAINTS was written and directed by Troy Duffy. The film found a cult following once it hit DVD, making millions for Fox.

THE BOONDOCK SAINTS followed two Irish brothers turned vigilantes who wipe out the entire Boston underworld.

Fox will finance the sequel and Troy Duffy will return to direct the next installment.

What about the directors out there that haven't had their shot yet? I hope he's seen "Overnight" several times.

I dont know why everyone hated the first movie. It is to this day one of the most entertaining movies I have ever seen. I am excited to see where this goes.

I've never seen this. I'll have to rent it.

After hearing all kinds of terrible things about Duffy -- including that he's ripped off investors in the second film, allowed production start date after production start date to go by without a shot being filmed, disappeared with the money, been threatened by several studios that he'll never work in Hollywood again -- I'm really surprised that Variety is now reporting that it may be a go with Duffy at the helm. Can we get a link to the article so we can see who the source was? If it was Duffy, I'm thinking this is another ruse. The Variety website doesn't have a Boondock Saints article less than three years old, and the claims made here are basically the same ones made by Duffy at that time.

Never heard of this movie; was it any good or just so bad that you can't help but watch it...like a trainwreck?

It's guilty pleasure fun. I don't know why its so popular though. It just seems like your above average action flick with a decent story to me. It's enjoyable but not a classic or anything. That's just me though. A lot of people love it.

Troy's cousin Rich Duffy is a childhood friend, and the word from the family (when last I talked to Rich a few years ago, anyway) was that Troy was completely washed up in Hollywood for all the reasons Balkaster mentions and more. So I am very, very surprised to hear about BS2 this morning.

As much as I like to belive this is true, and I loved the first movie, I think this is B.S. There was a documentary about the director burning a ton of bridges in Hollywood and one of the main actors vowing never to work with him again.
Although I have no ill will to Mr. Duffy and would love to see a sequel ( I belives the working title was "All Saints Day).
I think this is just propaganda because of the special editon DVD of Boondock Saints was recently released and not selling to well.

Everyone I know swears by this movie. In fact, it's in my Netflix queue because I wanted to see for myself. I heard about the sequel awhile ago. I'm the only one on my hockey team that hasn't seen it. It better be good vigilante fun, though my buddies may have hyped it up too much, which was exactly the reason I couldn't enjoy Pulp Fiction

It's not surprising that no one heard of this, it was an indie film that had only a limited release at the box office. (like barely 10 days) it made more money overseas. It cost about $7 million to make, so it need to make up over $6 million in DVD sales to just cover production costs not-to-mention other costs. Ahhh the era of the DVD is resurrecting so many projects from the depths of development hell.
