Wessmith posted. "I was disappointed not to see Star Trek Deep Space Nine on the list. I always thought that was one of the better Star Trek shows, especially when the Worf character came aboard and during the whole Dominion War saga." I totally agree huge series overlook. Would have rather seen that than Voyager. Wessmith also posted: "I appreciate spiderr987's passion and viewpoints on the whole new vs. classic BSG. I think it's really difficult to compare the two, because they're made for completely different audiences and generations. The original was aimed at the kids and was for family viewing. The new version is made for adults, not kids, and I would hope parents are taking great care in how much the kids are watching. It's not the BSG we remember as kids, but I still think it's an enjoyable show." I cannot agree more. Spider quit being a self-rightous ass and bombarding us with worthless postings. You have made it known that some sect of society gloms onto the past and refuses to look to the future. Quit dragging down useful discussions with your dribbling. I'm also very dissapointed that "The Prisoner", "Angel", and "Smallville" were not listed on the Sci-Fi list. This list also suffers from not taking into account some anime greats that have been broadcast in the us via the Sci-Fi channel such as "Neon Genesis: Evangelion" possible one of the greatest science fiction tales ever, and the great anime series "Cowboy Bebop", which is essentially very Firefly-like. Finally, though silly at time, another excellent sci-fi western series "Trigun". Note: Overall list has some odd choices, but at least it sparkes some interest as to, oh yah, I remember that show, or What???. I don't care about the ranking so much, but the overall choices (Thunderbirds???)

...Farscape! Good call, that one is missing as well.

Damn right Lamar! Also, NO "Space: Above and Beyond", "Millenium"... I agree quality shows missed on the list. I still say "Angel" should have been on there as well since they had Buffy.

I've seen a lot of lists of best SF shows in various publications (TV Guide, EW, etc.). Normally I have some quibbles, but for the most part I can see their points. That said, this is hands-down the most absurd list of best SF tv shows I've ever seen. As others have pointed out, there are many more worthy shows out there - they chose Space 1999 over Space: Above and Beyond? The Six Million Dollar Man over Angel? Lost in Space over the Prisoner? The fact that they included animated series like The Jetsons and Futurama opens the door to a legion of animated series that could run rings around most of their live action choices. Even the order is ridiculous - Buffy is way too low. The Twilight Zone should always be among the top three - nobody has outdone Serling when it comes to tv anthology series. Even the new Galactica - which I personally think is superb - should not be ranked at #2 since it's far to early to determine its legacy. Their list really looks like they selected the titles at random, then had a chimpanzee arrange the order.

TO SPIDER, NOBODY GIVES A SHIT ABOUT THE OLD BATTLESTAR GALACTICA!!! GET INTO THE 21ST CENTURY. THE OLD BSG WAS A RIP OFF OF STAR WARS PEOPLE TUNED INTO SEE IT BECAUSE THEY WERE EXPECTING STAR WARS!!! IF YOU HAVE AN ARGUMENT ABOUT THE SHOW WHY DON'T YOU DISCUSS THE SHOW VERSUS HOW MUCH YOU MISS THE OLD SHOW. I liked the old BSG and grew up on it, but I won't put on bliders to QUALITY science fiction. If you have a thought please put some real thought into it instead of posting what others have said. I know, try this on for size. I have a problem with this plotline involving Armada because... FILL IN THE BLANK. Not, Ron Moore is this, and Ron Moore is that and this post said this and this post said that. How old are you??? GROW UP!

Now onto the real topic. I missed the following shows from the list (in order of my faves) 1. The Prisoner 2. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine 3. Angel (yes I know fantasy, but hey so is Buffy) 4. Neon Genesis Evangelion (Possible one of the best Animated Sci-Fi ever done.) 5. Cowboy Bebop (Think Firefly as Anime Bounty Hunters) 6. Smallville (I really do love this show) 7. Trigun (Another really cool Anime Sci-Fi Show) 8. Dark Shadows (Another Fantasy show, but hey very cool) Please let this post get back on track to a real discussion!!! I'm sure that I've missed more but that a short list of what's missing.

Let's face it there was a ton of crap on the list that didn't belong there, sorry to any "Thunderbird" fans, but ugh! I'm primarily disappointed as to no anime. It's not like this is an unknown genra, it's pretty darn well known now. The Japanese have done some kick ass Sci-Fi in years past in Anime form. It's a real shame not to acknowledge it. Here's a partial list of really great Anime: Neon Genesis: Evangelion Trigun Cowboy Bebop Gasaraki Serial Experiments Lain Boogiepop Phantom Now and Then, Here and There Bubblegum Crisis 2040 This is a short list, but there is a huge amount of quality Sci-Fi beyond big robots, karate fights, and big boobs.

Biggest problem with this list is: NO ANIME.
