so the question is... WHO the hell is the new "Hero"?? Ben Affleck?? haha

Just a few days after Universal Pictures officially signed director Tony Gilroy to lead the production for The Bourne Legacy, the newly tasked helmer has confirmed this next adventure will not involve Matt Damon. Despite previous rumors the studio was reportedly trying to negotiate with Damon's reps, Gilroy tells Hollywood Elsewhere this story is a stand-alone project that won't affect Damon's character
"This is not a reboot or a recast or a prequel. No one's replacing Matt Damon. There will be a whole new hero, a whole new chapter...this is a stand-alone project," said Gilroy.
"The easiest way to think of it is an expansion or a reveal," Gilroy added. "Jason Bourne will not be in this film, but he's very much alive. What happened in the first three films is the trigger for what happens. I'm building a legend and an environment and a wider conspiracy... the world we're making enhances and advances and invites Jason Bourne's return [down the road]."

Yeah, I guess the story is since the name Jason Bourne was just the alias of Matt Damon's character the name can be applied to another operative. This is an interesting twist to continue the franchise without Damon but I don't know if this will work. I for one liked Damon's Bourne. He was kind of a highly skilled innocent functioning in a world of backstabbing evildoings. He just wanted peace and the truth. That made him different than Bond or other action heroes. What will a new "Jason Bourne" be like?
well that should be interesting. you know Matt Damon should've been approached to play Daredevil since mister i don't want to do action movies anymore Affleck punk out of doing anymore Daredevil or action hero movies. What do you think?
You're probably right, Monkeyfoot. "Jason Bourne" would have to be some sort of code-name rather than Matt Damon's character's actual name. Otherwise, this doesn't make any f'n sense.
Speaking of Daredevil, I really didn't think it was THAT bad of a movie, and that Ben didn't do that bad of a job. I think it's just that the Daredevil character is well.... pretty damn boring as far as abilities and action goes.
Im iffy on this one but will wait for a trailer before deciding. and Violator- its not that the abilities sucked it was that the story was just god awful. they only took elements of franks story telling- like the scene in where bullseye tries to kill elecktra- they didnt use the story as a whole.
This was a bit of a surprise. To have a Bourne story without the main character. Hm. The book is not like this. It features Bourne attempting to live a normal life after the events of The Bourne Ultimatum. Well, as long as they are inclined to bring Matt Damon back somewhere "down the road", I'm game for this.
redhairs99: Jason Bourne was a code name. The character's real name is David Webb. So yes, anybody could take up the name Jason Bourne in the story.
I don't like this idea...I think you have an established character the general audience likes showing no signs of having gotten bored with it. To change it up like this after only 3 movies is going to be a tough sell.
Man this sounds cool. Gilroy is a great screenwriter and a good director. He has had some good movies with Michael Clayton and Duplicity. I guarantee that Gilroy is going to direct a much better movie that won't make your eyes hurt while watching it. The last two movies were good but damn they are hard to watch, I feel like they gave the camera over to someone with ADD just to see what would happen. Not that many spin-offs seem to work in Hollywood but I have high hopes for this one.
