BOURNE Prequel Coming?

Universal thinking about a Bourne prequel without Damon?

It seems that Universal Pictures may want the Bourne franchise to move forward even if it's without director Paul Greengrass or lead star Matt Damon. Back in November, Bourne Supremacy and Bourne Ultimatum helmer Paul Greengrass revealed he had exited the development of the next Jason Bourne film. Shortly after that revelation, lead star Matt Damon-- who's starring in Greengrass' next thriller Green Zone-- also said he would be passing on it as well.

But apparently that doesn't mean Matt Damon and Greengrass are done with the series.

While at the premiere for Invictus, Empire Magazine posed the question on the latest developments to Damon who responded;

"There'll probably be a prequel of some kind with another actor and another director before we do another one," he said, "just because I think we're probably another five years away from doing it – we've got to get a script..."

So they both may return to the franchise but there may be a prequel somewhere in between if Universal pushes for more Bourne hard enough. The question to that is open-ended. If they produce a prequel and it fails, they could ruin any chance for Damon and Greengrass' eventual return.  And Universal still has Green Zone hitting theaters March 12, 2010 so they may want to keep that relationship friendly.

Sound off on the possibility of having a Bourne prequel below, Maniacs.

These movies were way over rated for me.  Pass for me.

Could not care less really. Plenty of similar action films to choose from IMO. Not that I didn't enjoy the series but it didn't really stand out for me, especially after several viewings

They didn't stand out because they're basically the same movie:  Bourne needs to get from point A to point B and racks ass the whole way there.

I for one am not ashamed in the slightest to admit I thoroughly enjoyed all three Borne movies.  The Blu-Ray set is part of my collection, and I have watched them all multiple times.

I'm not too interested in a prequel with a different cast, though.   I don't think a prequel even with the original cast would really interest me.  I'm not a fan of any "prequels" for the most part.

The first movie kicked complete and total ass for me (I always thought Matt Damon was kind of a Streisand, but he is rockin' the shit in this movie).  The sequels were good, basic action movies, but nothing like the first. If both Damon & Greengrass (or Liman) were back, I might be down for  a 4th, but I have zero interest in a a prequel or a Damon-less Bourne.

To bad it isnt overbearing with blue CGI drawings as actors with little range then we would have obvious need for more films. Sorry Matt Damon can act and Sam Worthington is worthless.

How about no

Um does the fast and the furious franchise and XXX franchise ring any bells for anyone. The prequel will proably stink and then damon and greengrass will reapear to make everything right again. (Note To Hollywood_- Don't let dollar signs ruin a good franchise.

A prequel without Matt Damon. Lemme guess, Shia Labeouf as Jason Bourne?

I love the Bourne movies. And whether you like them or not, they are the seminal movie series that caused most modern action movies now to be done in the "real and gritty" style that is popular.

I'm not sure how well prequel Bourne movies without Damon would do. He is not getting gray in the hair and he pretty much still looks like a young man. So who would you get to play him even younger? Zac Efron? Also, unlike James Bond, no one else has played him on the big screen. Why would anybody want to see anybody else do it? Nobody wants an Indiana Jones movie without Harrison Ford on the big screen.
