With the good word building on the dragon fighting film REIGN OF FIRE, some not so good news comes from director Rob Bowman, who was recently charged with beginning the Dirk Pitt big screen franchise with SAHARA.

Bowman was announced on the project at the Cannes film festival this spring, snagging international interest in the effort to bring Clive Cussler's action/adventure book series to the big screen. What's the word now?

"I'm not going to do SAHARA anymore," Bowman told us. "Creatively, we came to an impasse and it wasn't going the way that I thought would be right for it. So I stepped back from it."

No word on who might be taking up the reigns.
