The 'Incredible Hulk' has made a smashing come back, claiming the #1 spot at the box office amid positive word of mouth and a strong reaction from the fans.
The movie took in $54.5 million, pushing it well ahead the current champ, 'Kung Fu Panda', and trouncing the the week's other new opener, 'The Happening'. It would appear that Marvel has another hit on its hands.
By comparison, Ang Lee's slightly lower budgeted 'Hulk' made $62 million on its opening weekend in June 2003.
The take is, however, considerably less that the phenom that is 'Iron Man' opened with. That movie continues to fly strong, dropping only one place to #7 this week. The armored avenger collected another $5.1 million in this, its seventh week. The total domestic tally is now at over $297 million. At this pace, the film should breat $300 million next week.
Next week, the Marvel heroes will have to face down Mike Meyer's new persona 'The Love Guru' and the return of Maxwell Smart in 'Get Smart'.
