People seem to forget that all hate seemingly stems from religion of one or the other.  Here since Christianity is the dominant religion of course it gets the limelight. But Christians and/or the Right are also the biggest hypocrites on the planet.  That is a fact. I'm not saying all Christians are but a hell of a lot are. And they love to bitch and pontificate but when caught they always use those magic words or some form thereof "Nobody's perfect and God will forgive me" to justify their actions before jumping back on the pulpit or soapbox or what have you.  As for me I would love to somehow have people who treat anybody like they are beneath them for no good cause systematically eradicated like rats in the basement. This world would be a better place. Sometimes - and it might be crazy - I think it's time for a good old fashioned Civil/Revolutionary war again to take this country back from the Corporatists, Theocracy of America. Which is funny because those two things are oxymorons. We all know what the Bible says about the rich but the Right who claim to be Christians are the main supporters of corporate America. Don't get me wrong the Left is guilty of much the same but at least they make efforts to stick up for the minorities without trying to wipe them out.

Oh - and as for the Chikfila thing. Yeah - that guy can have his opinion but he sends money to the FRC who in turn sends money to help support the Kill the Gays bill in Uganda. Sorry - I love CFA sandwiches but none of my money is going there. I even learned how to make my own CFA type sandwiches which are ten times better anyway.

...caught doing something they preach against...

From first post.

Again like TJ said it isn't religion, it's men using religion for purpose of war or whatever else. If it wasn't religion then it was ethnicity, race, language, family name or some man made border to divide ourselves. There's always a way or an excuse for men to find a way to legitimize an aggresive act.

Once you move past the Old Testament the only religion that has violence as part of its culture is islam and it starts with its founder

Like I said all those things hatred of another race, language, ect all stem from religion whether people know it or not.  All those things that were in the Old Testament about not eating shellfish, to not wearing certain types of fabric, etc were all because they wanted those people to separate themselves from other people who did those things.

Wiseguy..."Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword." Matthew 10:34, NIV version, Jesus' own words.  I'm not saying I think Christianity is inherently violent, but there is a case to be made...but Christian zealots were also pretty violent during Christianity's first 1,000 years.  I believe that newer religions will settle down in time.

MrJawbreakingEquilibrium 2/24/2013 8:39:40 AM

Well, to be fair the violent extremist ones now are just as old - if not older. The thing with the Christian religion is that they just evolved and found ways to control and brainwash people without violence.

SarcasticCaveman 2/24/2013 8:47:22 AM

I'll stop tip toeing around the word here...people saying "violent extremist", I assume are talking about Islam?  There, I said it.  Islam was founded in the early part of the 7th century, as Mohammed supposedly lived 570 - 632.  What was Christianity doing in it's first 1400 years?  Oh, things like crusades come to mind.  Then those 1400 years were followed by The Spanish Inquisition, burning witches...all kinds of fun stuff.  Even today, some "Christian" zealots do things like bomb abortion clinics and protest military funerals.  Zealots can come from many religions.

MrJawbreakingEquilibrium 2/24/2013 9:18:19 AM

I never said that Christianity wasnt violent. They were. And they would be still if for one; they weren't cowards and two; if they didn't find better ways to control the naive populations and have them do their bidding.
