According to Thisislondon.co.uk, Paramount wants Brad Pitt to replace Tom Cruise in the next Mission Impossible film.

The report says that Paramount is willing to offer Pitt over $40 million to star in the film, a move that would make him the highest paid actor in movie history. Other actors have made more on various movies, but never as a flat upfront rate.

"They're set on Brad taking over as a gutsy new head operative who puts together his own unique team of specialists," an insider told the site.

Brad Pitt's production company, Plan B, is based at Paramount and he is clearly the biggest star on their roster.

Time will tell how this one pans out.

So this is another slap at Tom Cruise and his sofa hopping, scientology-raving antics?
This seems like a childish playground pouting decision. Bof!

It might save the franchise... getting rid of the mental midget is a good idea.

It would be nice if they could come up with something new in the villain department. So far it seems that the IMF team exists solely to fight its own rogue agents.

Hmm... This might not be so bad. The series needs something fresh anyways, and Brad can come off as a pretty effective actor when given the right role. I'll wait and see where this goes before passing any sort of solid judgement.... however I will remain optimistic. :)

Brad Pitt is a good actor and leading man, but I don't know if he would even want to do it. Yeah, he obviously has the talent to pull of something like this and probably do it better than Tom Cruise, but it just seems a little weird to have Cruise replaced by someone about as well known. It`s also a big gamble by the studio to throw up that much dough as a flat rate. Hey, if it happens, I will be there to watch it.

And it is definitely a slap in the face of Cruise.
Hail Lord Xenon!!!

I sense Pitt's Thetan count is dreadfully low...

As long as they follow JJ Abrams lead on TEAMWORK. MI3 was the first one to get it right. MI1 and 2 felt like Tom Cruise on solo missions, and that's not what Mission: Impossible is about.

And am I alone in wanting to see an original cast member be the agent who gives Pitt his orders? Bring back Martin Landau or Leonard Nimoy or Steven Hill. Give them a role like Anthony Hopkins had in MI2 as the original character they played on the show.

Well, seeing as how Paramount already dumped Cruise, they'd need to replace him in any franchise they own that he previously starred in. I'd personally much rather see Paramount give up after a few sequels and start fresh with a new idea. Meh, who am I kidding.
