Brannon Braga has been talking again about the creation of ENTERPRISE and what we can expect to see in the season ahead.

While talking to Trek Galaxy, Braga gave a detailed explanation on the genesis of the program's concept, saying, "It was really Rick Berman's doing. The studio approached him to create a new show and he in turn approached me with this idea. One day about two and a half, three years ago, he just said, 'what would you think about doing a show that took place a hundred years before Kirk?' We had done FIRST CONTACT together, and he said, 'what happened between FIRST CONTACT and the time of James T. Kirk?' How did humanity get to be perfect? How did it get its act together the way Roddenberry envisioned? He thought that would be an interesting time, and I was very intrigued by it, because I had been writing Star Trek for quite some time and was getting a little tired of the somewhat-stiff, formalized way these people talked and behaved. And I thought, boy what a great way to infuse everything, to not only go back and keep it essentially STAR TREK where it's truly about exploration, but to can make the characters more contemporary because they are much closer to you and me than they are to Picard and Janeway. But at the same time, it's STAR TREK, and in a funny way more spirited and more in keeping with the original series. I thought it was a brilliant idea. So it's not like we are out to just change the franchise. This new series is very much STAR TREK, but there's absolutely no reason not to make it more accessible and change it, because it's time for a change."

When asked about other series concepts that had been discussed, Braga says, "Rick and I did discuss some other possibilities, but our heart was always with this one, and we pretty much stuck to it. We never really discussed anything else. I mean, we did for five minutes talk about 'Star Fleet Academy', almost out of obligation to the rumour - and we quickly dispensed with it, because this had to be a show about exploring. The last two STAR TREK shows were not about exploring. VOYAGER was about getting home, and DEEP SPACE NINE was about a space station. This new series had to get back to roots of STAR TREK.

Braga also spoke of ENTERPRISE's new spin on the old TREK franchise, saying, "I would definitely say it's about firsts. It's about what it would be like for you and me to go out there in space. These are trained astronauts, but not all of them are entirely comfortable being on a warp ship meeting creepy aliens. They've never done it before now. There is a corny line we keep using about 'making history with every light year'. Every step these people take is being scrutinized back on earth. Nothing is taken for granted. So Enterprise is about making history."

More specifically, he adds, "You are going to see the Suliban again, our villains in ENTERPRISE. We are going to reveal a little more about the Temporal Cold War that's going on. But for the most part, we are going to be doing some exploring, and the crew is going to find some really weird stuff. We are going to see one of the characters totally freak out, and want to go home early on. We are going see the Vulcan/human rift come out again in a very dramatic episode. We are going to see a surprising character development with T'Pol. It's going to be a lot of firsts. You know, even having the Enterprise pull up to another spaceship to say hi is a big deal to this crew. They don't have any of the famous Star Trek protocols yet, so it's going to have a different feeling from other shows that we've done. And we are already finding that out as we cut together the first episode now. It feels different from anything that's gone before. It feels more naturalistic somehow, and realistic, and it's totally cool. It's great to work on."
