James Gandolfini 1961 to 2013

Sopranos star suffered a heart attack

Yesterday, the sad news arrived that Sopranos’ star James Gandolfini had suffered a heart attack while on vacation in Italy. His 13 year old son, Michael, found him. An autopsy will be performed to find out the exact causes of said heart attack.
Gandolfini had moderate success with his career until he landed the role of Tony Soprano in HBO’s The Sopranos. A role that won him three Emmys and a Golden Globe. A native of Westwood New Jersey Gandolfini had appeared in such films as The Mexican, Get Shorty, True Romance, Where the Wild Things Are, Zero Dark Thirty, and Killing Them Softly. He had completed Animal Rescue but the film will not be released until next year.
In a recent interview Gandolfini had this to say about his career: “I seek out good stories, basically — that’s it. The older I get, the funnier-looking I get, the more comedies I’m offered. I’m starting to look like a toad, so I’ll probably be getting even more soon.”

Mania’s heart goes out to the Gandolfini family and their friends.

Why is the website so late with this news?

Sopranos one of my favorite shows ever.  Everyone go to your local Bada Bing in memory of Gandolfini.

I was a huge fan of the show for seasons 1-7 but only sporadically watched season 8 and skipped the last season altogether. You could tell the writing wasn't as good and it appeared JG was bored with the role. And was ready to move on. All that being said this is shocking and sad especially for his son.

Got to sit down and talk with him at the Savannah Film festival last year. Despite his appearance in film and TV, he was an approachable, honest, and forthright fellow- no pretense at all.

Sad to see him go so soon.

So sad, one of the most loved and respected actors of our time.  I've heard anything but great things about him and the way he treated everyone.
