The New York Times reported that Electronic Arts did not have a lot of time with actor Marlon Brando to record his voice for the upcoming
GODFATHER video game. But the company noted, "he really gave us a lot of insight into the mind of the don, into the essence of his character. And in trying to understand the don, in trying to understand 'The Godfather' universe."
E.A. announced that because of Brando's health condition his real voice will not be used in the game. A professional mimic will instead voice the character of the don.
The company reported that created famous scenes and characters from the movie in an effort to generate a wide-ranging virtual world in which players can create their own narratives.
The game is set mostly in New York City between the years 1945 and 1955. The Godfather, Sonny, Fredo and the other famous characters are all included in the story. The character gamers will play is an up-and-coming member of the Corleone family. One must build up respect by taking over rackets and businesses and serving his masters in the family organization.
Francis Ford Coppola consulted briefly with E.A. but he isn't happy with what they are doing. He told the
Times "the game has taken the work we all did on the film, and transformed it into a 'kill and be killed' slaughter session."
And though Al Pacino declined to be involved with the game, as reported earlier Robert Duvall and James Caan will lend their voices.
