It seems that Summit Entertainment's rumored list of director candidates for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn was true. Variety is reporting the studio is circling in on one of them in particular, with the trade saying the producers are closing in on helmer Bill Condon (Dream Girls) to helm the last story of the franchise, which will broken into two films much like Warner Bros. Pictures is doing with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Condon is in negotiations to direct "Breaking Dawn" -- the final tome in author Stephenie Meyer's four-book vampire series. The deal is expected to close quickly, with no major sticking points between the two sides.

Catherine Hardwicke helmed the first pic, while Chris Weitz directed the second, "New Moon." David Slade was behind the camera for the third, the upcoming "Eclipse." Though Summit has been fickle with its directors, the company has stuck with scribe Melissa Rosenberg to adapt each installment.

Production on "Dawn" has been rumored to begin as early as this fall.

Good.  The sooner these get made the sooner we can move on.

never saw Dream Girls....so no clue how to feel about that

two movies is still good

as a side note, I bought that Taylor Lautner\Rolling Stone poster for my niece for her birthday -- she doesn't know she's getting it yet, so if you hear a high pitched squeal from the middle of the country, that's her

I'm having to defend Jacob's honor from my evil nephew, he wants to neuter the wolf boy....I tell him not to sleep, as gardening tools are in vogue right now and one could easily do the same to him

I just want these movies over and done with I haven't seen any of these movies but the first one and I only saw that when I was on a cruise and managed to catch it for free.... I'd rather sit through a root canal with no pain meds than see that movie again

I see the drama queen boys are still trying to run the place....

I go away Jarrod, and look what happens...the moodiest and most emo of the maniacs come in to kick and hate the very thing they could easily be compared to :)

Good lord...an emo love story directed by a guy who had directed a melodramatic musical drama?  How much more angst does Summit want to suck out of this franchise?

I actually stumbled onto Twilight on Showtime a few weeks ago.  I could only bear about 10 minutes of it before I felt part of myself die inside and had to turn to MLB Network.

(Sorry StarlightGuard - I know you're a super fan of the books and movies)

I did the same thing during Showtime's free weekend, rgtchtiger.  But I went into it with the lowest of expectations, having read all of the vitriol spouted about it here since the first one came out.  But, having seen it, it wasn't as bad as I expected.  Once I put the sparkly thing out of my mind, it was a decent movie.  And now my wife wants to see the next one.

And welcome back StarlightGuard.

I doubt the people who are bashing the movie so vehemently have even seen the movie. Or they are just bashing it to the extent that they are just to get a reaction. There are plenty of movies out there that are exponentially worse than Twilight. I'm not saying it should be winning Oscars, but come on.... it's not a Uwe Boll movie.

I'm very curious how they're going to do the whole sex, pregnancy, extremely bloody birth thing and still keep it safe for their target audience?

ponyboy76 4/8/2010 11:10:56 AM

I guarantee that 95% of the people that bash this series, haven't even watched it. I get it. It is very emo and I used to be one of thos people. I read the books and they are actually a pretty good read. The fact you can't say you watched it and that you "stumbled" onto says a lot. Its not for everyone. I like vampire movies and the wolves, at least in the book are pretty badass. I actually prefer all the other characters like Seth Clearwater and the other Cullens opposed to Bella and Edward. Its too bad its all about them.

Tonebone 4/8/2010 12:27:02 PM

Come on. It comes out once a year. And like any phenom, it gets the press when a movie/book is near release. If its not your cup of tea, fine. I can't say I am that big of a fan (though I did enjoy the first one very much. Jacob and his wolf pack were the only saving grace for the second), but I aint gonna tell my girlfriend or her little sister they are idiots for liking it. I wouldn't want that done to me with anything I enjoy
