Brendan Fraser joins "The Mummy 3"

According to Variety, Brendan Fraser has signed on to reprise his role in the upcoming sequel,
The Mummy 3, but Rachel Weisz will not be returning.
The film, which will be directed by Rob Cohen, will be set in China and will introduce Jet Li as a villain.
The first script, written by Miles Millar and Alfred Gough, included Weisz's character, but she has since dropped out of talks to reprise the roll. Millar and Gough have gone back to work on the script to write her character out.
Assuming the final re-write is met with satisfaction at Universal, the film will aim for a July 18, 2008 release.
