According to TMZ, Brendan Fraser has signed on to reprise his role as Rick O'Connell for Universal Pictures' third installment of THE MUMMY.

The site claims the project will be a re-imagining of the first two films and that it will not be called THE MUMMY 3.

An offer has been made to Joe Johnston (Hidalgo, Jurassic Park 3) to direct the film. Shooting is expected to get underway early next year.

Okay, I know Hollywood's going through a spate of redoing old films, reimagining them, etc. But The Mummy is only five years old. I mean, now they're trying to pump the sand out of the dry well. I don't know. We'll see how it turns out... *mopes away*

The Mummy Returns is only 5 years old. The Mummy is 7 and by the time this actually comes out it'll be 8 or 9, that's plenty of time for 3 movies. Of course, it's still no excuse.

well atleast they're using Fraser for a movie like Mummy and not for a movie we really care about good actors, such as Batman.

Reimagining? Jesus Jumped-Up Christ...

I guess I don't understand why they have to re-imagine the first two films. Maybe because Rachel Weiz didn't want to do another. Why not just keep the set mythology from the first two films and have a new mummy and a lone adventure for Rick. Hollywood is just scrambling right now like cockroaches when the lights come on.

Ya know I could've seen another Mummy...featuring the kid all grown up. Why Brendan?!?! WHY?!?!

Wait, they're "re-imagining" the first two fairly recent movies into a third movie (which will not be the third in the series) and they're hiring Fraser to reprise his character but presumably as a "re-imagined" version of the same character?

This is the sort of logic employed by James T. Kirk to make maniacal mega-computers implode. Error! Error! Faulty!
