Brett Ratner Directing THE WOLFMAN?

Well, that's what AICN's Harry Knowles is reporting just a day after the trades announced Romanek leaving the project due to creative differences. Harry got a wee bit excited, as usual, as you will see in his rant above. I normally say "it's up to you to believe it" with these Movie Rumor Control reports but I'll say in this case, I don't believe it. Back in October, AICN did the same exact thing. Wiseman appeared to have dropped out of the Escape From New York remake and AICN reported immediately that none other than Ratner was picked to direct it, something which the director denied just a few days later.

If this report turns out to be true, it will be verified soon enough...

It feels like one of two things.

Someone wants to continue putting his name in the headlines so they continue ranting about him..

Or..

Someone close to Ratner's camp is an AICN reader and anytime some high profile project loses a director, they send a "scoop" to AICN in the sole purpose of getting his name in there.

Either way, it feels fake and it's going under Movie Rumor Control.

I never got why people don't like Ratner or his movies,,,,Money Talks, Rush Hour, Rush Hour 2, The Fmaily Man, Red Dragon, After the Sunset,,,,have all been fun movies. I don't kow what more people want. X3 was not great, but again, that is not Ratners fault. Blame the Studio on that. All that being said, I would rather have another director do this. Like I said yesterday, I would love to see Mark Pellington do this. Maybe Christoph Gans or Alexandre Aja. Well, I hope this doesn't mean the studio is gonna rush this now, ala, X3, becuase we know how that turned out.

I don't hate Ratner, but I don't make it a point to rush out and see his stuff. Red Dragon is easily my favorite of the films he's done, but everything else is fairly unmemorable. Having him direct this film could be a good call or could be a really bad one.

It's probably a really bad one.

Dark Jedi - I go with your first option. Harry Knowles just likes to read the own shit he writes.

There is no god…

Okay, maybe a little harsh to say… How about WTF? Are they serious? This is the guy who had VCR tapes from the the 90s (like Mrs. Doubtfire) in the collection for the Leeds family in Red Dragon, as we all know the problem with that is Red Dragon takes place in the 80s. And let us not forget the crap that was X3. Who could fill the void left by Romanek? I would love to see Nolan do this or maybe Whedon would be a good replacement.

Usually, i never agree with harry knowles, but Unfortunally, we both have something in common, and thats how passionately we both hate ratner... Hey. Isn't that asshole busy with chris tucker raping frank sinatra's corpse by making a brat pack movie anyways?

Well, I'll admit it, I liked X-3. But that's the only Ratner movie I like. I hated all three RH and I'm not a big fan of anything else he has done. So if this is true, IMHO it doesn't bode well for the Wolfman but he may be able to pull a good one out his ___.

Yuck. I actually thought Ratner totally screwed up the pacing of Red Dragon and ruined an otherwise perfect script from Ted Tally. There was no tension to the film, and he totally miscast Edward Norton as Will Graham. However I thought X3 was...okay...certainly not up to par with the first two films, but it was not a complete bastardization of celluloid. I won't even talk about the Rush Hour films and how much I hate those.

Now I don't really have any immediate interest in seeing a new Wolfman movie, but I certainly agree that Ratner is not the guy to make it. Why is it that his name always pops up as a replacement director for others who back out? He was involved with Superman Returns after McG left the project, he took over X3 from Brian Singer, and I think he even took Red Dragon after the David Fincher passed on the film. Does he deliver films under budget and on time?

Ratner MUST know someone or be related to someone big - that's the only way I can figure he keeps getting these gigs. He's not Ewe Bolle by any stretch but he is mediocre at best.

Ratner seems to be the go to guy for very safe, generic movies. he doesn't take any chances or try anything new. Very vanilla. If he did this, it might be reasonably successful with the general public, but would be forgoten within a couple years.
