Chuck Palahniuk has another novel getting adapted to the big screen, reports Variety. The author behind Fight Club and Choke had his novel Haunted optioned by producer Brian Levy, who has just launched a management and production company named New School Media. "Invisible Monsters" and "Survivor" are also getting adapted for the big screen out of Hollywood. Koen Mortier (Ex-Drummer) will adapt and direct this latest Palahniuk work for NSM.

Plot Concept: "Haunted" revolves around a group of characters who answer an ad for a writers retreat and unwittingly end up competing in a "Survivor"-like scenario, where the host withholds heat, power and food. As the storytellers grow more desperate they ruthlessly plot to make themselves the hero of the reality show or film that they expect will be made from their plight.

I think this one is going to be difficult to adapt and do it justice - too many characters (23), each with story (or 2). It would be fun to see if they'll use Saint Gut-Free's story though - gah!

I don't really understand how a book of short stories is going to be made into a movie. As a big fan of Palahniuk, i think this is a terrible idea. the over-all story of the book, that knitted the whole storyline together was simply not good enough to be a movie on its own.

however, the Nightmare Box story (Or stories, if i remember correctly) i think could make for an interesting story. that's really the only one i could imagine them making a movie off of.

I think this could work well. Cut the number of characters down to a manageable number and have each of them tell one short story to eat up about 30 minutes. Cap the film at a quick 90 minutes and done.

The main story of sabotage is great and will translate perfectly to the big screen, provided they land a worthy cast.

I agree with Finnish. They could do this like they did those old B-movie horror films. Where a group of people are telling each other ghost stories around a campfire all the while there's something going on around them that they don't know about. Except for the obvious differences.

finnish, MJE: I think you need to read the book to get why it wont work.

I own the book and have read it.

I don't see any reason why it couldn't work with some tweaking. It's a good story.

Um, don't tell me what I didn't read. I have it and read of his books. They're all good save for Rant...that sucked. Oh, and the new one.

Yeah, I don't see how this is going to work either. I liked a lot of the short stories in the book, but the framework with the writing retreat got overblown and tedious.
