Brian Yuzna's Fantastic Factory Produces FAUST.

Comic book adaptation is first of a four-package deal.

By John Thonen     February 13, 2000

Principal Photography wrapped December 23 on FAUST: LOVE OF THE DAMNED, the latest offering from one of the DTV arena's most fearless filmmakers, Brian (SOCIETY, PROGENY, THE DENTIST) Yuzna. The film is the first of a four-picture package that will be produced for Filmax by Yuzna's Fantastic Factory company, in Barcelona, Spain.

While the film, which is adapted from David Quinn and Tim Vigil's FAUST comic book, will play theatrically in many international markets, it will likely be a late 2000 DTV release here in the director's homeland. The film will feature genre vets Andrew (WISHMASTER) Divoff and Jeffrey (RE-ANIMATOR) Combs, along with Mark Frost in the title role and Monica Van Campen as Claire. Comic co-creator and film screenwriter, Quinn has described Van Campen as the embodiment of the Claire character that has existed in his mind since the comic's inception.

The film will feature considerable makeup effects work from the always surrealistic Screaming Mad George and Spanish makeup artist Poli Cantero, as well as extensive CGI digital effects. The complexities of post-production effects work is expected to keep the film from making a hoped for premiere at this year's Cannes Film Festival. In spite of the often violent and sexual nature of the story, Yuzna hopes to achieve an R rating.

The announced Filmax film package promises to be an exciting one for genre fans, with Jack (THE HIDDEN) Sholder and frequent Yuzna partner Stuart (RE-ANIMATOR) Gordon planning to direct of two of the films. Most exciting is Yuzna's promise of year 2000 production of BEYOND RE-ANIMATOR, a second sequel to one of the best genre films of the '80s.
