"Battlestar Galactica" may be coming to an end soon but that's not stopping mastermind Ronald D. Moore from moving onward into new sci-fi television series. He's found himself a new lead for his upcoming two hour pilot for "Virtuality", says the Hollywood Reporter. British actor James D'Arcy ("Churchill at War") will be leading the pilot to be directed by Peter Berg.

Plot Concept: The new series
is set aboard the Phaeton, Earth's first starship, on a 10-year journey to explore a distant solar system. To help the crew endure the long trip, NASA equips the ship with advanced virtual reality modules, allowing them to assume adventurous identities and go anyplace they want. D'Arcy will play the ship's psych officer, who produces the virtual reality shows.

So is each episode going to be about a holodeck adventure?

Yeah, apparently it's going to be about a danger room ala X-Men or training modules ala Matrix. Well at least this way you're not limited to what stories you want to tell, it could be kind of cool.

Hmmm. I wonder if Prof. Moriarity will become sentient and end up running amuck. Whereby the only way the crew can stop him is if they trick him into thinking he has entered the real world when really they have trapped him in a small plastic cube for eternity?....Just asking.

I don't see this series working for long. Shouldn't the series center more on the exploration of the new star system instead of what the crew does on their proverbial free time? Moz I think you're right - it sounds like each episode will be a holodeck adventure, but I don't think that should be the focal point of the series. Where's the conflict in stories like that? The potential conflict in exploring a new region of space would offer multitudes of stories (it's worked for Star Trek for over 40 years) and conflicts. I'm really skeptical about this idea, even if it's Moore.

I'm guessing they don't use FTL warp speeds to get to the new solar system. They will use more conventional drives and that would mean a LOOOONG ride with little or nothing to look at in between our system and the next one. There wont be anything to explore outside so they can either deep sleep for the ride, or do something recreational to keep their minds engaged through the boredom of REALISTIC space travel between systems. Warp Drive was just a writers device to get someplace else fast, but the power requirements in reality are not achievable (using technology that we have) The writers of VIRTUALITY are likely taking a more realistic approach to deep space exploration. Every alien wont look humanoid (if they even encounter life elsewhere). Look at the tech level they have on Moores' BSG and subtract the FTL drive, add a "holodeck" and and you'll be looking at they type of ship they have.

I think I'll pass.

Should've been on HBO, any real pervo knows you would have it set on PORNO 24/7.

It certainly isn't interesting, whatever else the suits may think it is.
