The music of Film and Television features in a couple of categories at the Ivor Novello Awards, the British Academy of Composers and Songwriters’ annual celebration of British music talent. This year is the 50th such ceremony and, as usual, it takes place at London’s swanky Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane on May 24th.

Some of the biggest names in music will attend the event, including faces from the film music industry. In the film soundtrack category David Arnold heads up the trio of nominees for Casino Royale; he is joined by John Powell, who is nominated for Ice Age: The Meltdown and Christian Henson, recognized for Severance.

Music for the small screen is also covered by the academy and this year Alex Heffes leads the competition with his music for Marc Munden’s drama Shiny Shiny Bright New Hole in My Heart, followed closely by Martin Phipps and The Virgin Queen. Joining them is the BBC’s glossy drama series Hotel Babylon, which featured music by John Lunn and Jim Williams.
