According to Variety, Brittany Snow (John Tucker Must Die) has signed on to star in the upcoming Screen Gems horror film, Prom Night.

The film, a remake of the 1980 original starring Jamie Lee Curtis, follows a group of teenage girls as they are stalked by a masked killer.

The film is aiming for a February 1, 2008 release.

KJ's Take:  For some reason, this film really interests me.  I have a really good feeling about it and if we can only get it to be rated R, we may have a shot at making a pretty decent film.

*Smack*

Wake the hell up KJ!  It's going to be more PG-13 horror crap!

I'm not one to overly complain about studios making remakes...but this is getting ridiculous. Let's see...we've had Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Carrie, The Fog, The Amityville Horror, The Hills Have Eyes, When A Stranger Calls...and we got Halloween coming up...and I believe Motel Hell. When are they redoing Humanoids From The Deep and Blood Beach? Sheesh. SUPREMEONE

Dude, I`ll never end. When you think about it though today teenagers have most likely never watched the originals so to them its new shite. I guess they are trying to reintroduce them to the 15-25 year olds. Some have beed decent like Texas Chainsaw, but most have missed the mark of the originals. They won`t stop until the remakes making money at the B.O. They`ll probably remake Nightmare on Elm Street next. And on a side note. That chick is hot.

pony's right, they will milk this cashcow until it's dry. This remake explosion is like the horror movie explosion of the late 80's early 90's which was also filled with crap by the way. We just have to wade through the garbage and look for the hidden gems.. hey, I really liked The Hills Have Eyes and I hated the original.... Texas was ok but it was a different animal from the original (Splatter house picture vs Teen scream fest). And I don't care what any of Romero's army of slow moving fans think... The new Dawn OWNED IMO... Personally I am just waiting for something that is actually scarey... It's been a while.....

well.... there was The Family Stone, and The Producers... They both scared the sh*t outa me.

When it comes to horror movies, I have always been more of a fan of the B Movies than the so called A movies. Killer Clowns from Space is still one of my all time favorites, why don't they remake that? He He. Or how about some of the cooler fright movies from the 80s, like Fright Night and stuff like that. They should leave the classics alone. On the other hand there does seem to be a high interest in horror/suspense movies in hollywood right now so there are some interesting movies coming out. 23 with Jim Carrey looks pretty good, 1408 with John Cusak looks pretty good too. I would like to see some original concepts come out rather than rehashing old classic horror movies, although I wouldn't mind seeing a remake of Rosemary's Baby (imo that's one of the freakiest movies of all time).

I have 2 titles I want to see remade: CHUD and They Live! with Rowdy Roddy Piper reprising his starring role in They Live! :D

I wonder if they will use the same story the lil sister of jamie lee dies and her younger brother Alex see's the whole thing as a child. Then puts on the black mask and outfit and seeks revenge. PROM NIGHT RULED !

As I've said, i don't mind remakes so much as BAD remakes (The Fog, When a Stranger Calls, etc). Prom Night was a decent flick and certainly has the potential to be remade as another decent movie, but you just know it won't be. Bring back Leslie Nielson!

Okay, here's a subtopic for this post...if you could see ANY movie in the vein of Sci-Fi/Horror/Fantasy ever made redone now, what would it be, and who would you have making/starring in it? (And don't just cop out with something like "dude, remakes sucks") Let's see how obscure we can get. The Ice Pirates Written/Directed by Joss Whedon Starring: Johnny Knoxville as Jason, Shannon Elizabeth as Princess Karina, Mike Epps as Roscoe We might as well face it: Remakes are a part of life, and will be for a long time, so it's our duty to write about how much they suck and then to go them anyway. I figured why not see what kinds of obscure movies I could get some of you to come up with for remakes. I know that "The Ice Pirates" a stupid movie, but it's from my childhood and I loved it back then. SPACE HERPES for crying out loud! LOL!

right on, meat head... They Live rocked. John Carpenter's flicks need more lovin. and while i dont hate cgi, i'd like to see more plastic guck. :) also, madmanic, im one of romero's soldiers... and i move pretty damn fast. lol. but yeah, DotD remake kicked ass. not better than the original, but awesome in its own right. i cried a little inside after i saw The Hitcher remake. and more so when a co-worker of mine said he loved it. im sure its cuz of the hip young cast and the hot music of all american rejects and nine inch nails. *sigh*
