Reports have been surfacing of an upcoming interview with 007 actor Pierce Brosnan in the new issue of
Entertainment Weekly that, if true, would seem to mark the end of his portrayal of Ian Fleming's super-spy.
Brosnan is reportedly quoted as saying by
EW "Bond is another lifetime, behind me."
Brosnan may be trying to use a negotiation tactic with EON Productions, the company behind the development of the James Bond film series, or he may truly be done with the franchise. He's expressed his displeasure in not being able to convince the producers of the Bond series to return the storytelling back to its roots, de-emphasizing the need for hundred million dollar budgets and state-of-the-art special effects and instead focusing on gritter spy drama storylines. If the Irish-born actor has retired his license to kill, EON and MGM will have to find a replacement in short order: they want to release the next Bond movie in November of 2005.
"We went out on a high," Brosnan tells
EW, "and I look back affectionately at that time and doing those four movies. But I've said all I gotta say on it."
