New Line Cinema has set Pierce Brosnan to star in the comedy "Spy vs. Stu."  Brosnan will also server as a producer.

The story centers on Stu, a commitment-phobe who plans to propose to his girlfriend during an island vacation. Unbeknownst to him, a handsome, debonair spy (Brosnan) is on the other end of the island, having just finished saving the world. When the bored spy takes a serious liking to Stu's girl, Stu is forced to compete with the ultrasuave superspy in order to win the heart of his true love.

The original screenplay is by Keith Mitchell and Allie Dvorin.

uh huh... that'll make people forget he was James Bond. LOL!

He must be tired of doing action flicks and has moved on to comedy which he does pretty well, but he has definitely been typecast due to him playing Bond. He was just in that movie playing a sort of suave hitman, now he`s actually playing a suave spy. "Yeah, no one`s going to mistake him for Bond again"

Actually, this could be rather amusing. It would give him a chance to poke a little fun at himself and at his Bond-ish image. It will only work, though, if he's able to laugh at himself.

Brosnan gave a great performance in The Matador so I will check him out in this. He was really funny in it, if you haven't seen it yet, it's worth watching.

both Brosnan and Kinear gave their all for Matador but I'm sorry that movie was boring as watching paint dry... when it was over I was like "um ok whats next?"
actually he wasn't a SUAVE hitman, and rather a burned out, weary, tired assasin VERY past his prime with shaky fingers and unsteady aim. I think the point was to make Kinear his next apprentice (WHY?) I dunno.

Post 5 - I think that is why I liked his character in it. He wasn't trying to play this suave debonair guy. He was rude, shallow and very childish. He was sooo funny. I wonder if it was the story or the pacing that bothered you. I thought the movie worked really well, it was funny and I even had really low expectations for it before I watched it...

I agree with you about the Matador, jon41380. I thought Brosnan and Kinear were fantastic in their roles and I really enjoyed the film. I thought the whole movie worked really well and is definitely worth watching. I'm not sure about this new movie though. A lot will depend on who plays Stu. Someone like Vince Vaughn could work because he is at his funniest when playing off a foil. I don't know if Brosnan could be that foil, but his oppoisite in this film will be essential to whether I have any interest.
