Brosnan Updates on CROWN AFFAIR 2

By: Jarrod Sarafin
Date: Friday, August 01, 2008
Source: USA Today

While The Thomas Crown Affair starring Pierce Brosnan was a remake of its 1968 counterpart, the sequel will be traveling a different direction and instead be a remake of 1964's Topkapi. That's all that we have known about the project for about a year now. Well, we also know there's one actor attached and one director, the two being leading star Pierce Brosnan and director Paul Verhoeven. The latest update that Pierce Brosnan has given to USA Today seems to confirm what we know thus far.

When asked about the source material, he confirmed it would be a remake of the 1964 jewel heist film but it would be loosely based on the film.

"We are just using a sliver of that."

When asked about whether Rene Russo would be coming back, the actor confirmed that she's not and they're going a different direction with The Thomas Crown Affair 2. They're looking for a leading lady at the moment, with Angelina Jolie being a possibility.

Plot Summary: When Arthur Abdel Simpson first spots Harper in the Athens airport, he recognizes him as a tourist unfamiliar with the city and in need of a private driver. In other words, the perfect mark for Simpson's brand of entrepreneurship. But Harper proves to be more the spider than the fly when he catches Simpson riffling his wallet for traveler's checks. Soon Simpson finds himself blackmailed into driving a suspicious car across the Turkish border. Then, when he is caught again, this time by the police, he faces a choice: cooperate with the Turks and spy on his erstwhile colleagues or end up in one of Turkey's notorious prisons. The authorities suspect an attempted coup, but Harper and his gang of international jewel thieves have planned something both less sinister and much, much more audacious.

No release date is set for the sequel.

I really enjoyed the first one. The first Brosnan one that is. Losing Russo's character for the sequel kinda negates most of the point of that film though. I hate this obsession with giving everything a fucking sequel. This makes as much sense as S. Darko.

Won't even watch this shit for free when it’s on TV. Fuck them in their stupid asses.

I love Angelina Jolie but hopefully they will find an older actress, just something about Pierce's old wrinkled grey haired balls that on near Angelina that does not sound good.

Yeah why make a remake to a movie that was actually good compared to PIGFORMERS, but I guess people with bad taste need films to. At least Thomas Crown isnt approved by car companies that are going under cause Christian Terrorist Bush promised Halibartons war would get them plenty of oil or cell phone companies that like commercials to be trashy movies like PIFORMERS :reheating the of Bacon.

I enjoyed the first and will shell out the sawbuck for the sequel.

Too bad older women keep getting the shaft in Hollywood. Maybe in a 100 years when roles are reversed and they hold the power they can cast old heffers with a young bucks, but not yet.

I'm with you lot. This sequel is uncalled for and will probably be hugely dissappointing. Still, Pierce is my main man, so I'll be checking it out anyway. The guy who's talking shit on his age is just jealous. Face it, if the majority of people looked as good now as he does in his mid-fifties, no man would ever feel unwanted.

I'm glad to see there's at least one other person who would love to see an older hottie get a lead in a movie. Rene Russo wasn't exactly a spring chicken when Thomas Crown affair hit almost ten years ago, and she was certainly very easy on the eyes. What would be wrong with casting somebody like Michelle Pfiffer or Demi Moore in this role? I've always had a thing for Amy Brenneman as well, but I'm guessing the majority of you don't know who that is.

WhiteKnight, you're not giving people here enough credit. I love Amy Breneman. First saw her or noticed her in Heat.
Let me say that I like Jolie but perhaps because of over exposure I'm getting a little tired of her.
