Scoop Feedback:

March 4, 2003... Dimension Films has agreed to co-finance the $75 million dollar Terry Gilliam movie BROTHERS GRIMM with MGM. Under the deal Dimension will handle domestic distribution of the movie which is set to begin filming this spring. Matt Damon and Heath Ledger are the two legendary German brothers who travel from town to town, pulling the wool over townsfolks eyes by inventing tales of supernatural creatures and haunted woods. When a real curse confronts the brothers, they must overcome the spell as well as a pair of villainous masterminds (to be played by Robin Williams
and Jonathan Pryce) behind the deed.

Dimension is also loosening its pursestrings further by agreeing to co-finance the big-screen version of Warner Bros. STARSKY & HUTCH movie, also set to start filming later this year. BROTHERS GRIMM $75 million price tag represents the highest budget so far for the studio. [Source: Variety.]

April 24, 2003... Just a quick addition on the development of THE BROTHERS GRIMM, Terry Gilliam's next picture. Variety lists the first date of principal photography as being June 30 in Prague.

The $75 million dollar fantasy film will shoot for a total of 17 weeks in the Czech Republic. Heath Ledger and Matt Damon are playing the two literary Grimms with Robin Williams and Jonathan Pryce handling the villain roles. [Source: Variety.]

June 30, 2003... Screendaily reports that principal photography begins today on BROTHERS GRIMM, the $75 million dollar fantasy/adventure film starring Matt Damon and Heath Ledger. The picture is being directed by Terry Gilliam.

It was believed that Robin Williams would be playing one of the two evil-doers opposing the youthful brothers but it appears Williams has dropped out of the film. A source for Screendaily said Williams has departed the production and that negotiations with Nicole Kidman to film a cameo have also fallen apart.

BROTHERS GRIMM is anticipated for a 2004 release. The film also stars Jonathan Pryce, Peter Stormare and Lena Heady. [Screendaily once dated one of the sisters Grimm.]

September 26, 2003... Monica Bellucci has been cast as the evil queen of the forest in Terry Gilliam's BROTHERS GRIMM movie. Bellucci's character is a sorceress who kidnaps virgins to harvest their blood so she can stay forever young and beautiful. Most guys (myself included) who saw Bellucci in THE MATRIX RELOADED as Percephone wouldn't have a problem with this blood shedding thing if it meant she's going to wear one of those snug latex corsets again.

Matt Damon and Heath Ledger play the two Grimm siblings who are actually con artists, duping simple townsfolk into believing they're the Middle Ages equivalent of the Ghostbusters. The brothers are called to the task when they investigate the haunted forest where Bellucci's character resides. The film is scheduled for a mid- or fall 2004 opening. [Variety.]

June 14, 2004... Dimension Films has marked out a February 28, 2005 release date for THE BROTHERS GRIMM.

August 27, 2004... After experiencing the shutdown of his last film in mid-production (DON QUIXOTE), it would seem that Terry Gilliam's bad run of luck is continuing to play out. Dimension Films has pushed back the release of Gilliam's next film, THE BROTHERS GRIMM, nearly a full year. The studio had been scheduling a February 2005 release for the $70 million dollar fantasy-action movie but has now decided to reschedule its release until November 23, 2005. For Gilliam fans who had been awaiting the director's next picture, that's more than 14 months away.

Matt Damon and Heath Ledger play the two 18th centuory storytelling brothers who go from town to town inventing tall tales of supernatural trouble so they can fleece the townsfolk. When the brothers are hired by the French government to invesitgate claims of a haunted forest, they encounter a real witch (played by Monica Bellucci) and must find a way to defeat her.
